Are you cooking a goat in a lion’s pot? https://www.spreaker.com/episode/the-lion-s-pot-scraping-off-perfection--72019066 We’ve all been there. You have a grand vision—a "Lion" of a purpose—but you try to simmer it alongside your "Goat" fears of what people might think or the terror of getting it wrong. The result? A life that tastes like "just enough" instead of "greatness." Today we are talking about Nia through the eyes of Kuumba . We are tearing down the altar of perfectionism. What if failure wasn't a wall, but a staircase? What if you were allowed to be "bad" at something until you became a master? The Ancestral Algorithm is clear: Delete 'Fear of Failure' and install 'Infinite Iteration'. We’re looking at the Trials of Gye to see how falling down is actually the first step to flying. Call to Inaction “The heavy load only falls when you open your hands.” Stop over-polishing. What project are you refusing ...

The Sovereign Breath: Scraping Off the False Self

The Sovereign Breath: Scraping Off the False Self https://www.spreaker.com/episode/the-sovereign-breath-scraping-off-the-false-self--71955071 Have you ever felt crushed by the weight of a story you didn't even write? So many of us are walking through life carrying luggage packed by other people. We let the world's definitions of our culture, our capabilities, and our future dictate how we move. But what if the secret to your ultimate power wasn't found in fighting those definitions, but in simply dropping the bags? Today on the podcast, we visit the ancient wisdom of the Akoban people and a young princess who was taught how to breathe past the ridicule of her peers. We explore the tension between who the world demands you to be and the quiet, sovereign power of who you choose to be. We aren't adding anything new to your plate today; we are taking the heavy things off. Call to Inaction: When the cup is empty, it can finally be filled. Stop pouring your energy into a c...

The Illusion of the Grind: Grounding Our Green in Ujamaa

The Illusion of the Grind: Grounding Our Green in Ujamaa https://www.spreaker.com/episode/the-illusion-of-the-grind-grounding-our-green-in-ujamaa--71888114 You are flying high, but are you running out of breath? The hustle culture tells us to keep grinding, keep spending, and keep showing off. But the Ancestors whisper a different truth: Money is just energy. Right now, many of us are hemorrhaging our energy to feed systems that don't love us. We are exhausted birds flapping against a hurricane of consumerism, terrified to land. In today's episode, we dive deep into the green energy of Ujamaa. We aren't talking about working harder; we are talking about stopping the bleed. We are talking about shedding the illusions of wealth to find the reality of cooperative power. Call to Inaction: Proverb of Release: "You cannot fill a cup that is leaking from the bottom; plug the hole before you pour." Take a moment to pause. What is one financial habit or "status sy...

Is Your "Love" for the Community Getting You Beaten by the Rain?

Image
Is Your "Love" for the Community Getting You Beaten by the Rain? https://www.spreaker.com/episode/nia-the-filter-for-the-collective--71775198 We’ve all been there—juggling a million projects, answering every "can you help me?" text, and showing up for every "collective" effort until we’re bone-tired and bitter. We call it Ujima. We call it being a "good brother" or a "strong sister." But what if that busyness is actually a virus? Today we dive into Nia (Purpose). In a world that wants us scattered, Nia is the ultimate filter. If Ujima is the work , Nia is the why . Without the why, the work is just another form of exhaustion. We explore why "love is blind" can be a dangerous proverb for a NationBuilder, and how to use the yellow light of Nia to burn away the "buildup" of false responsibilities. Call to Inaction: Today, do not look for a new goal. Look for a commitment to quit. Release the need to be the answer to e...

Unity Ain’t Just a Word: Practicing What We Pledge

Image
Unity Ain’t Just a Word: Practicing What We Pledge Today, I found myself musing on the principle of Umoja , or Unity . I went through my morning meditation and workout, but something was missing — I forgot to recite the Gye-Nyame Pledge . That may not seem like a big deal to some, but it made me pause and reflect. Why do we pledge? Why do we say these words each day? The Power of a Daily Pledge A pledge is more than recitation — it’s a daily reminder of who you are, what you stand for, and what you’re building. Whether you're building a business, raising a family, strengthening a tribe, or transforming a community — Unity is required . Umoja is not passive. It’s not a cool word to post. It’s not just a hashtag. It’s a practice . Or maybe the better word is praxis — not just belief, but action . Daily. Deliberate. Intentional. Practice Over Perfection A pledge helps ground that action. It reminds us not just of where we’re going — but who we must become to get ther...

Question 2: What Does a Warrior Do?

Image
Peace, Tribe! We’ve made it to the second day of exploring the Gye-Nyame Questions , and today we’re diving into Question 2: What does a warrior do? Before we jump into that, let me give you some history about how these questions came to be because understanding their roots is essential to fully grasping their meaning. The History Behind the First Seven Questions The first seven questions—like “What is a warrior?” and “What does a warrior do?”—came about during an important chapter in my journey. At the time, one of my elders, Mama Malika, hired me to assist her with a project at the Africentric High School. She loved what I was already doing in the community, but she wanted to create something similar that wasn’t directly connected to other initiatives like the Underground Railroad (UGRR). Why the separation? There was concern that if the school’s funders became aware of our other grassroots projects, it could jeopardize their funding. So, I developed the first seven questions specif...

The Right Of Descension Introduction The right of descension is something that we don't talk about much these days. It is a principle from our past when we were tribes who had no clear boundaries or territories. If a group wanted to leave their tribe, they would have to get permission from the tribal council, and then there was another requirement: at least 30 members of the tribe willing to go with them. This ensured that there was strength in numbers with this new tribe as they set up camp somewhere else in their vicinity, away from the main group. In times gone by, this was necessary because it ensured survival of all members of the tribe by allowing them to split off into smaller groups if needed! But now things have changed drastically due to environmental factors and political upheavals elsewhere in our world—our planet has become less hospitable than ever before for most forms of life on it including humans! We must adapt quickly or perish together as one species; splitting ...

Purpose & Ujima

Image
Purpose & Ujima Great Ujima: First I want to apologize for the total mess up with the “Daily Toast”. I already shared that the sound was messed up for this week, but I found out that I posted it at 6:45am rather than 5:45am. Now I have to go back and listen to my commercial to check what time I stated was show time. I go through phases where I totally forget show times, and a bunch of other stuff, just ride the wave for this week and we will be back to normal next week. It’s crazy to think that I had a big accident during the week of purpose, but all things work together to bring balance. Enough of that!  Let's get to our discussion. Well we have made it to the magnificent principle of Ujima, and we are in the week of Nia, so let’s pull these super beings together and see what they can do. “Ujima is a principle most people don’t know about because it’s a collective action that involves building community, but not in the way you think. Find out about it here!” We know tha...

Nia- The Illusion of Disunity

Image
So today I want to focus on these trouble makers who keep us divided. Let's call them the illusionists because they are magicians of sorts. They are skilled at getting us to believe that we are separate and not united. They are masters at getting us to see and even create the differences between us and others. They know that if we see ourselves as different from each other then we will not come together as one. Now there are different types of illusionists, but for now I want to focus on the ones that come from within. These are the illusionists that in most cases we can recognize once we know what to look for. These people have a need to have drama in their lives and in our lives, so they try to create it when there is none. They do this by manipulating information and distorting reality, sometimes they do this to intentionally hurt someone or a group of people, but most of the time they do it because they don't know any other way to live. See these illusionists have been taug...

Umoja in Motion (Sample)

Image
Ujima is nothing but our Umoja in motion. What I mean is that everything that the definition of Umoja calls for is used in motion and in action through the principle of Ujima. The first part of this principle calls for us to build and maintain our community together and to make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems, and to solve them together. We have an obligation to each other if we are going to be successful in life, because no one person has all the answers, no one person knows how to solve all the problems. The second part of this principle calls for us to remember our past, so we don't repeat it. We should know that there were others before us who had a lot of good ideas about how to solve different kinds of problems. We can learn from their mistakes, too — so that we don't have to repeat them. That's what history means. Now we need to gather the lessons recognize what we have and move into the future boldly. We can no longer be held back by the ill...
