Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade

Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade Great Day, Fam. This one right here? It’s not for everyone. If you’re not at or approaching Eldership—defined in our tribe as about 55 years old and up—you might not feel all of this. But if you’re curious, or if you’re one of those younger souls already walking with wisdom, you’re welcome to keep reading. This message is for the Elders. For those of us who should know better. And yes—I’m including myself. Let’s Start With the Mirror I’ve got to confess something. I’ve been guilty. Guilty of being reactionary. Guilty of falling into the trap of conservatism. Guilty of romanticizing the past. Guilty of looking at our young people and calling them “soft”—as if we were born warriors, as if we didn’t have to become who we are through fire, failure, and guidance. Many of us Elders are stuck in a loop. We remember only the highlights of our youth—the toughest times we survived, the boldest moments ...

Live @ New Harvest Cafe

Columbus Ohio has been blessed by New harvest Cafe. Every week on Saturday evenings they host live bands that come in bless the audience with music.
Last week I had a chance to hear Mark Lomax and his band. They came played a mixture of hard core old school jazz mixed with some music composed by Mr. Lomax.  The audience was caught up not only in Mark Lomax mastery over the drum, but was transported, and transfixed by Eddie Bayard on the saxophone. This was a dynamic show that has to be seen to believe.
We have just launched a show called "Live @ New Harvest" that will be broadcasting the shows over Gye-Nyame Journey Radio on spreaker for our family and friends out of town or who just can't come. For anyone who was not able to catch the show or want to listen to it again I have it available on the station now. Just click one of the links at the bottom of the screen and listen. Be on the look out for my interview with Mark Lomax about his art, mastery, music, and his album "State Of Black America".
Next week we will be joined by JCam and friends. I have seen these brothers before and it is worth the cover charge of $10 dollars. Did also mention that these events are BYOB and the kitchen will also be open. For those artist looking for a place to inspire you to write or compose bring your pen and pad, for those modern artist we also provide wi-fi so that you can get your computer connection.
I am personally excited by these event because they remind me of the old jazz spots, and juke joints that I read about when I am doing my research. It was places like these that bebop was born and then took the world by storm. For all of my artist friends we have been given a gift called New Harvest to create the next "big thang", so hopefully I will see you in the place, you never now when and impromptu poetry set might jump off.....so get ready, and I will see you soon.
