Image
Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade Great Day, Fam. This one right here? It’s not for everyone. If you’re not at or approaching Eldership—defined in our tribe as about 55 years old and up—you might not feel all of this. But if you’re curious, or if you’re one of those younger souls already walking with wisdom, you’re welcome to keep reading. This message is for the Elders. For those of us who should know better. And yes—I’m including myself. Let’s Start With the Mirror I’ve got to confess something. I’ve been guilty. Guilty of being reactionary. Guilty of falling into the trap of conservatism. Guilty of romanticizing the past. Guilty of looking at our young people and calling them “soft”—as if we were born warriors, as if we didn’t have to become who we are through fire, failure, and guidance. Many of us Elders are stuck in a loop. We remember only the highlights of our youth—the toughest times we survived, the boldest moments ...

It’s Okay to Be Lost

Image
I’ve always called my job an adventure, and I’m proud of that. I love what I do, even with all its challenges. But more than just my work, life itself is an adventure. And for anyone reading this—whether young or old—let me assure you: it’s okay to be lost . Being lost is part of the journey. It’s part of the process. Nothing is always going to line up perfectly. Things won’t always go according to plan, and that’s fine. The key is to learn how to be lost without panicking . Learn how to be lost and still keep your mind steady . We feel like if we don’t know exactly what’s next, something must be wrong. But that’s not the case. Some of the greatest growth happens in the confusion . Some of the best lessons are learned in the wandering . Embracing the Unknown Right now, I’m in a season of my own uncertainty. For a long time, I didn’t want to leav...

Many believe that they are on their purpose, but they are on the easy route that they were punked into believing was their own choice. This route is a simple path that leads to comfort, laziness, and mediocrity. When you wake up and go to work, do you feel like your life is fulfilling? If it isn't, don't worry! You've been punked into thinking this is what you want, but there's something inside of you screaming at you that it isn't. All of us have been punked by life at some point and time; we're all capable of more than what we see in front of us. Even if a person thinks they have no choice in the matter—that their actions are guided by external forces—they still have a chance to change their destiny. Yes, things may seem bleak right now, but there's always a way to get back on your Nia (purpose).... That is good , but the rest is waiti...

#giveyourselfpermission - To Be Free

Image
#giveyourselfpermission to be free. Release all those things that have held you down. We are moving into a new time and place and by allowing ourselves to be stuck we risk being left behind. Free yourself from the prison of your own creation, and move past your self imposed limitations. Began to release the true you that has been kept under raps, because of your insecurity. Stop trying to fit in at the expense of your soul. Freedom is not free and never has been. The cost is you facing the consequences of your choices. Freedom requires us to look reality straight in the face, and live what we see. This can cause pain especially if you have been avoiding this for your entire life. Freedom requires new eyes that are not scared to look into the pit of our own soul and rescue those dreams that we banished there. Many of us are like people who are on a sinking ship who refuse to let go of the rail to be pulled on the rescue raft. Don't get it confused we cannot not have it both ways. ...
