Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade

Image
Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade Great Day, Fam. This one right here? It’s not for everyone. If you’re not at or approaching Eldership—defined in our tribe as about 55 years old and up—you might not feel all of this. But if you’re curious, or if you’re one of those younger souls already walking with wisdom, you’re welcome to keep reading. This message is for the Elders. For those of us who should know better. And yes—I’m including myself. Let’s Start With the Mirror I’ve got to confess something. I’ve been guilty. Guilty of being reactionary. Guilty of falling into the trap of conservatism. Guilty of romanticizing the past. Guilty of looking at our young people and calling them “soft”—as if we were born warriors, as if we didn’t have to become who we are through fire, failure, and guidance. Many of us Elders are stuck in a loop. We remember only the highlights of our youth—the toughest times we survived, the boldest moments ...

Why You Should Be Steaming

Why You Should Be Steaming Peace Fam: Here is an extra article. After my fast I usually spend a lot of time steaming, and I thought I would put together an article to give you more information about this style of preparing food. Steaming has made an impact on my life, because it takes little effort but the returns are major. I can actually turn it on and forget it. I don't have to worry about burning anything, and my food stays nutritious. I hope that you will join me on this journey. You can go to the nearest thrift store or you can click the link below and get yourself a steamer, and begin. Introduction Like many of you, I love cooking—the act of preparing food from scratch, not necessarily the eating part. (I mean, I do like eating it too, but that's not what I'm talking about.) The ways in which we cook and prepare our food are constantly changing: think about the way people cooked 100 years ago compared to 50 years ago compared to today. A few decades ago, people did...

Daily Toast- 58171 "Benefits Of Steaming"

Image
Peace FAM: Great Umoja, let's take some time and talk about the power of steaming and how you can use it in your life to get healthier, and to make cooking easier. i personally cook everything in it. As a matter of fact I made my kids some eggs in it this morning. Of course they were hard boiled, but I have made omellets as well as poached. I cook my rice, quinoa, and etc.. I also take care of my fish in this contraption. My favorite thing to prepare though is beans, man I can prepare some beans in less than 2 hours and if they are soaked even sooner. By adding some extra water and vegitables I can make it a soup. The best part about the steamer is that I can warm up my veggies, and not kill or wash away the health benefits. So those of you taking that 21 Day Nguzo Saba Challenge  go to a thrift store or find one of your friends who love buying gadgets and only use them for a few times, and get it from their. I just want to stress that you do not have to go out and buy and bran...

Daily Toast- Kujichagulia 44171 (Steaming food)

Image
Peace Fam Today was one of those days when I woke up with no idea of what to talk about. I struggle, and then the idea hit me to introduce the world to one of my favorite things, especially with the way I eat, my steamer, so during the conversation I discuss steaming and how to use it to assist on the warrior diet. So here is to a great Kujichagulia, and by the way I owe 14 push ups so as soon as finish this post I will knock them out. Nuff said Peace & 1hunidyears For those interested in seeing the final product from the "steaming" conversation. I Found some quiona after I shut the camera down so in less than an hour:

Gye-Nyame Steaming Journey

Image
This a lunch I put together in my steamer. Actually it took me longer to post this, than it did to make the meal. It is simply some fresh eggplant, zuccini (which was given to me by a parent, grown in her garden) onion, garlic, radish, bell peper, and carrot. Later I will add a little spicey tomatoe sauce, and eat in less than 20 minutes. Try it out or share some of your steamed meals for me to try.

Gye-Nyame steam adventures II

Here is another quick meal that I put together on the fly using my $6 steamer. Actually I bought 2 of them for $11. I am changing my diet to get back in warrior shape.  So I have started steaming I will keep you up on how its working for me so that maybe if you ever need to change your diet you got something to refer to. The meal you see is simply steamed cabbage, navy beans (steamed them earlier only took an hour let them steam while I was at work), potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, and salmon all the way at the bottom. I sesoned it with salt pepper, brags aminos, and cinnamon. When I put it in the boil I took some of the juice under the stesmer boil. Now I'm about to feast...
