Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade Great Day, Fam. This one right here? It’s not for everyone. If you’re not at or approaching Eldership—defined in our tribe as about 55 years old and up—you might not feel all of this. But if you’re curious, or if you’re one of those younger souls already walking with wisdom, you’re welcome to keep reading. This message is for the Elders. For those of us who should know better. And yes—I’m including myself. Let’s Start With the Mirror I’ve got to confess something. I’ve been guilty. Guilty of being reactionary. Guilty of falling into the trap of conservatism. Guilty of romanticizing the past. Guilty of looking at our young people and calling them “soft”—as if we were born warriors, as if we didn’t have to become who we are through fire, failure, and guidance. Many of us Elders are stuck in a loop. We remember only the highlights of our youth—the toughest times we survived, the boldest moments ...

Mastering Consciousness: Overcoming Unbalanced Passions

Mastering Consciousness: Overcoming Unbalanced Passions

Welcome to today's discussion. We're diving into question number six in our ongoing series, and since we're on a roll, we might as well tackle question seven too. These questions build on our previous exploration—"What must the warrior do to become great?" The answer was clear: They must be willing to die. But die to what?

The answer lies in dying to unbalanced passions—those forces that cloud our judgment, trap us in cycles of negativity, and keep us from achieving true greatness.

What Are the Unbalanced Passions?

The unbalanced passions are:

  • Fear
  • Envy
  • Pride
  • Greed
  • Sloth
  • Lust
  • Anger

These are not just abstract concepts; they are real forces that, when unchecked, can dominate our lives. They fuel chaos and keep us from seeing reality for what it is. Passions should be tools, not masters. When we let them take control, they distort our consciousness and limit our power.

The Enemy of Consciousness

Why must we die to these passions? Because they are opposed to Consciousness.

Not just woke consciousness—not just surface-level awareness—but true, deep, powerful consciousness.

When we are conscious, we are awake, aware, and able to act with clarity and purpose. But these passions work against us:

  • Fear keeps us stuck.
  • Envy makes us bitter.
  • Pride blinds us to wisdom.
  • Greed leads to emptiness.
  • Sloth robs us of discipline.
  • Lust distracts us.
  • Anger clouds our judgment.

And here’s the thing—our enemies know this. They feed our fears, pump up our envy, and stroke our pride. They nurture our greed and sloth while fueling our anger. Why? Because if we are ruled by these passions, we cannot act with power in the present moment.

The Power of the Present Moment

All of our strength, wisdom, and ability to shape reality exist in the present moment.

If we are stuck fretting over the past, we have no power.
If we are paralyzed by fear of the future, we have no power.
But when we are fully in the now, we are unstoppable.

That is why consciousness is the first step to greatness. To be great, to be wise, to be a warrior for your destiny, you must be present, awake, and conscious.

Let’s continue this journey together. Stay conscious. Stay powerful. Stay ready.
