Using Ujamaa To Overcome Fear (sample)

Image
I think we could all agree, at the least abstractly, that we want to live in a world without fear. Let's break it down and go on a run-through of some ideas, principles and practices which are fundamental to overcoming fear. Then maybe you'll see why you should take a closer look at the principle of Ujamaa, and how it's intersection with other principles helps us overcome fear and build friendship through the proper use of reciprocity and gratitude. The first idea I'd like to bring up is Ma'at, which is roughly equivalent to the western idea of justice - but with an important distinction. Ma'at wasn't about punishment or vengeance; it was about restoration, harmony and balance. One way to think about it is this: when someone violates a boundary, they have knocked the system out of balance, and Ma'at is there to restore that balance by restoring that boundary. If someone steals your bike, Ma'at seeks not to punish them as much as it seeks to return yo...

The Blessing In Being Stuck

Image
In each of our lives we reach a point where it feels as if we are stuck, and no matter what we do we cant seem to move forward. It is at these times we may need to slow down, and even stop struggling. I have found that the more we struggle at these times the worse we get entangled in life's net. Just stop and take some time to rest and to gain some perspective. At these times the universe may be trying to talk with us but because we are so busy trying to stay moving we cant hear. We have been taught that it is our duty to keep moving and never stop. If you are sick so what "get up and go to work" because we believe that our job needs us or that we will be fired. If you are stuck on a project keeping beating yourself over the head until a new idea comes forth. We have heard the stories of those who have pushed through major obstacles and now the world sing their praise, and we may want to be just like them. Because many of us feel that success is purely connecte...

Till we meet again

Image
I havent poured a libation since you left, My tears are the testament of the sorrow that I feel, and pray they will push you threw. These are the tears of a selfish man. For they are not for you but for the empty space left by your living this life. But we will meet again Your life has etched the map for me to follow to the ultimate place of rest, and i am grateful for the time we spent and i glance at the picture of you holding and now I hold your memory as tightly. I wont and cant say goodbye, lets just part and say till we meet again....

Final Goodbye II- Running from grief

Image
Today Pepa died/ Should I be happy for him/ or sad for my lost?/ Thursday morning June 28, 2012 9:08am: Sitting at my desk preparing for the day. It is going to be busy with all of the Yoking classes I have this afternoon so I decided to get busy on this back log of paperwork sitting on my desk. While sitting there I decided to complete my podcast of the "6th tool". Phone rings, and I look at caller ID, and feeling of dread hits me. It is my mother calling, and I'm hoping that she does not have bad news to report about my grandfather: ha2tim: "What's up? Mother: "where you at?" ha2tim: " I'm at the office, why what's up?" Mother: Well I was looking for your wife, I called and she didn't pickup." ha2tim:" Well you know she never answer the phone." We laugh.... Mother: " Well I wanted to go by and pickup Gina (my youngest daughter), cause you know she tickles daddy." I get qui...

"It Is Time For You To Leave"

Image
Before you read please check out the video so that you will not get lost, some of my readers are to young to remember the show Kung Fu, and will not understand my references.  What I loved about Kung fu was that it introduced me to different way of thinking. The scene that I am discussing today is the test that was set up in this fictional shaolin temple that determined when it was time for a student to leave. The test was basically the head monk (Master Khan) standing before the student every so often, and challenging the student to snatch the pebble from his hand. When the student missed he went back to his daily practice in the temple as a student. When he was finally able to snatch the pebble he and the master knew that it was time for him to leave. In other words it was made clear to the student and the teacher that student had no more to learn in the temple and it was time for him to continue his studies in the world. If only real life was this simple, and clear cut. ...

Synchronicity in "A Thousand Words!!!"

Image
This blog was inspired by the movie "A Thousand Words" staring Eddie Murphy. This move is about a relunctant hero who is forced to take a Journey of self transformation. The lead character played by Murphy is a slick, savy, successful literary agent. Who has molded and shaped his life by the use of his quick wit and his mouth piece. He has built a life that appears to be perfect, but early in the movie we see major flaws. First the lead character is arrogant, mean, loud, overbearing, rude and a manipulator. Secondly he has what a ppears to be a young marriage with a young baby that is being raised in an emaculate bachelor pad. Thirdly the lead character has a mother who appears to be suffering from the early stages of dimensia, who confuses her son (Murphy) with his father, who by the way we learn left the family when the character was 8 years old. The story begins when Murphy takes on the challenge of recruiting a very popular new age teacher as a client. With the goal of r...

Moving Meditation- song from SIMBA

Image
In this show I share a moving meditation that I developed to help with workouts. I find away to connect this with my Simba experience for those who want more information about Simba please click the link. {*It is Simba time so please go to our Crowdrise Campaign site and donate to Simba the goal for our chapter this year is to send 25 boys, that's $ 11,250 for a camp goal and we still have our long range goal of $100,000 from Gye-Nyame Chapter to help purchase a camp ground for the Nation.} I know that most of our time is being ate up by the system so I am trying to motivate people to explore different types of meditations that can be done while in motion or under different circumstances. Of course this one will also be available on Gumroad, but until then  you can hit up the Tip Jar. There has been many medical studies about the benefits of meditation, but I wonder what meditation combined with exercise will do. Hopefully turn you into a super hero...hahahaaa enjoy...

Two Stories about the Truth

Image
Here are two stories about Truth that struck me as powerful. The first is from a class that I took in my college days that stuck with me until today, and the second I recently ran into while going over some Zen tales. So check them out: In the beginning the first man and woman were sitting wondering and discussing Truth. They approached the Creator and asked that they be given the Truth. The Creator denied their request, saying that they were not ready for the Truth. They continued to ask over and over again when ever they got a chance. Finally after a time the Creator respecting their persistence gave in to their request. Before the truth was given to them, they were warned that the Truth is a heavy burden and that they may live to regret their request. Man and woman were excited and prepared themselves for this gift. The Creator formed the Truth into a giant mirror and placed this new burden on the shoulders of Man and Woman. At first the Truth didn't seem to heavy or much of...

Golden MC- Hip-Hop fable

Image
Any similarities to any real life situations is purely a coincidence. This tale is simply an adaption of "the goose who laid the golden eggs." Once upon a time when the Game was pure and the Love for the art and culture was still alive, there was an rapper who was called the "Golden MC", because all his ryhmes seemed to turn to gold. His fans flocked to stores to buy everything he put out, and his shows would always sell out. When he wrote a song it seemed to touch his listeners hearts, sparked their imaginations and excited thier passions. When he put out an album it seemed that he shaped reality. He developed a cult like following to the point that everything he touched and wore people seemed to flock to copy which meant that he not only sold records, but he was able to sell clothes, glasses, alcohol, and etc.. This golden MC belonged to a crew of friends that was led by a power hungry individual, and he wanted all the money he could get now. He didn'...

The Baba - Chapter 8 part III

Image
Image via Wikipedia “Jay, sit down.” I sat down and Simba took his place and Kwesi came and took a seat as well. “I’ve called some brothers here to help you through your ordeal. Kwesi is at the Master level and a few more brothers and sisters are on their way. I want you to eat and relax for a few hours while everything is in progress. “ “Yes, Sir…..” “You have questions?” “Yes.” “Well feel free to ask.” “First of all, where are we?” “We are in Southern Ohio at one of the families fish farms .” “What is done here?” “We grow fish , man.” Simba and Kwesi broke out laughing. “For what?” “To sell of course. We have fisheries and farms all around the country, and they pull in a lot of money for the family. At this particular farm we have five well stocked ponds that produce hundreds of thousands of pounds of fish per year.” “I have never heard of majestic fish farms?.” “Have you heard of Papa Joes, the home of the Secret lover Fish Boat?” “Hell yeah! When I was in my for...

Number 7

Image
Image by Leo Reynolds via Flickr Seven looks backward/ Study, rest, and perfection/ It's view of the world/ Discovered that I had not completed the number system so here you go and we complete the reat of the numbers before the end of the year. After this one we only have 2 more to go, and then maybe in 2012 I will try to wrestle with the zero... Seven is the masculine number that represents study rest and perfection. This is a crucial number in the process of development. Because in order to move forward it mus look to the past. This number is very similar to the indinkra symbol Sankofa. To look back the number 7 must stop, and rest and in its resting it builds power to move to the next level.  Perfection is a process that requires proper rest and study. When we study we sit still and focus our mind, and that is important when we are dealing with this number. It is said that if we do not obey the mandate of 7 and continue to try to move forward. The universe will find...

Change the story

Image
Image via Wikipedia Unhappy with life/ Be bold and use your magic/ To change the story/ Many are held prisoner to their story. This interesting to me. Those that follow the Journey know how important stories are as we travel the road of life. So we must move to control our narrative. This is not a new concept. If you have been paying attention to the news you will hear about and see the importance of the story (narrative). In the marketing world  I see that those with the best stories rule. When the story no longer fits the product either the story needs to change or the product suffers. In the same way that coperations and countries strive to control their stories, you have the same power. If the story of your life no longer fits where you are or where you are going you need to simply change your story. Your life in a sense is your brand and you are the CEO and marketing executive in charge of your brand. So move forward and change it if you need to. Of course you will have pe...

Meditation Balances the Body's Systems

Image
Image via Wikipedia I happened to be looking up some info about meditatition  for a group that I was doing, and decided to share an article I found. Actually this article started a few days ago when one of my elders sent me a video about transcedental meditation. Since I use some meditation techniques in my classes I decided to share  this information on my blog as well. I have decided that for the next 30 days I will meditate at least twice a day and blog about my experience. I am also challenging all my co authors, and members of  Gye-Nyame to do the same. Science is not only showing the healing properties of meditation on the individual's body, but has also shown that meditation also effects the world around us as well. So if I can get 50 people meditating with me for 30 days twice a day we can change the world. hahahahaa. Seriously I am putting out the challenge to all those on  the Journey, Meditate with me for the next 30 days or how ever many days our left....

Blockage

Image
Image by photosteve101 via Flickr Nothing comes through pen/ Inspiration appears to / Have abandoned me/ As I sit down to write once again I have run into the thing known by all writers. The blockage that prevents me from being able to share my thoughts in the mode I like. The question I periodically face is how to break through this " writers block "? What works for me is to write about it, and then the thoughts begin to flow for me again. This time my blockage is not because a shortage of ideas, this time I am faced by the on rush of ideas all wanting me to express what it is that they want to say. I realized that although the thoughts come to my mind the ideas are not mine. They have selected my being to express themselves through me. For the last two weeks I have been presenting either old ideas or others writing because I don't want to leave my regular readers hanging, nor do I want to break my circle of sharing things. This helps me probably more than it h...

Is the cost of gas rising or is the value of the dollar Falling?

Image
Image via Wikipedia My goal on this journey is to bring relevant information from a variety of fields to help us get a better understanding of ourselves and the world. Doing my morning search for motivation for a new Ha2ku i ran across the freakonomics site and they always seem to have something good to ponder on. After reading this story I was amazed at the consistency of the price of gas , but even more inter sting was the frightening fall in the value of the dollar. if you don't read the story checkout the graph. It reaches back to 1916 up till now. Look at both lines and read the instructions and you will see the dollar fallen off. hahahahaa Freakonomics » A Crude Guess About The Future
