The Art of Broken Wood: Why Brute Force Is Killing Your Genius Listen to the episode for this week of Kuiumba We love to sit by the muddy banks and complain about the storm. Look at our households, our ventures, and our exhausted minds. The shelter caved in, the resources feel waterlogged, and the old blueprint doesn't work anymore. So what do we do? We drop our tools, sit in the mud, and drown in the lower emotional loop: Mad at the downpour, Sad about what washed away, and Scared that we don't have what it takes to rebuild. From that paralyzed place, we drown in blame, shame, and guilt. We blame systemic weather; we carry the shame of broken foundations; we carry the guilt of not saving everyone. But Kuumba (Creativity) —burning in its radiant fire of deep Orange—does not ask you for seasoned, kiln-dried timber from the master’s storehouse. Libations for me is a process of remembering, and connecting or re-connecting to not only the Spirit but everything around us . When we pour libations we are opening ourselves as well as the group to the axe ' of the entire Universe . I first must admit that I do not belong to a group, sect or religious order. I am a lay man who have made a personal connection with the world, and the spirit. By pouring Libations we strengthen these relationship. So let me define a few things first so that we can be on the same page. Libations - the process of pouring or giving a sacrifice to form a connection with this world and the spiritual realm. The Three R’s of Relationships: Building Bonds on Respect, Responsibility, and Reciprocity In every relationship—whether personal, professional, or communal—there are foundational pillars that support and strengthen our connections. I call these the three R’s: respect , responsibility , and reciprocity . They’re the legs of the stool upon which strong, enduring relationships rest. This means engaging with others on a level that honors their stories, experiences, and inherent worth. Respect isn’t just a courtesy; it’s a commitment to understanding the person in front of you, appreciating their struggles and triumphs, and valuing their unique perspective. Responsibility: Owning Your Part in the Relationship Responsibility in a relationship isn’t just about meeting obligations—it’s about owning your role in nurturing a...
