Demari Faust on Gye-Nyame Journey radio

Had an excellent interview with one of columbus's finest artist. It is good to find young artist who really embrace Hip-Hop tradition. In the interview we discuss the path that he has walked and he dropped some jewels for those who have ears. So take a coffee brake and listen his and other interview on my spreaker radio show Gye-Nyame journey.

Stop looking at my finger

Don't look at finger/
look at path that it shows you/
Now walk on your path/

I have noticed that many times when I am giving advice that people will focusing on what I am doing rather than looking at where they need to be going. This is a fatal mistake for those on the Journey. When someone is giving directions to go somewhere it is always best to listen and look toward what they are pointing to rather than focusing your attention on them. I guess this is something that come with the culture that we have come up in. Many times people are looking for scapegoats to place their mistakes and faults on rather than just taking personal responsibility for their own stuff. So they begin to focus on their guide and what the guide is doing rather than focusing their effort on getting where they need to be.
We all want a perfect person to guide us and give us instructions for this life, but the fact is we are all flawed and if you are basinng your decision on success, salvation, joy, prosperity, aand etc., on something outside of you. I guess you get what you deserve. Stop looking at my finger and get to focusing on where you need to be. so for those Bruce Lee lovers like myself here is a small clip to help slap you into the proper mindstate.

What if- Preston J. Harrison

Question markImage via Wikipedia

                                        What if

What if God was a pit bull and the devil was a pie?
What if Heaven was a house where the backyard was the sky?
What if a telescope and microscope viewpoint was just the same?
What if goodness or evil were just somebody's last name?
If life is but a dream then what happens while we sleep?
In the event of insomnia, who represents the counted sheep?
What if fear was a landlord, would my faith pay him the rent?
If money is power truly, how much of it have I spent?
Why does Love seem to take the bus, while Hate owns a plane?
What if the sun is just plugged in and the ocean has a drain?
What if tomorrow becomes yesterday, would we all be lost in time?
What if silence became noise and we were all to learn to mime?
What if God tripped on a cricket and then He somehow fell,
to split Himself in two dimensions, one Heaven, the other Hell?
What if Jesus was an alien and a poet wrote the bible?
What if man took stock in his own toil and Satan wasn't liable?
What if we treated thoughts like children and they grew up just as fast?
What if pain was ale,  joy was wine and karma the drinking glass?

The Baba- chapter 6 part 1

A teacup on a saucer.Image via Wikipedia

Chapter 6
I have completed basic training and was assigned to work in Brother’s where I first met Simba. I also have been assigned to the male house where my training continued, but seems less intense. Every now and then I see Simba, but he has been traveling a lot lately. I work all day in the kitchen with four other brothers and two beautiful sisters. All are nation builders. Two belong to Gye Nyame House, and the other 4 belong to the House of MChugangi.
“Peace my name is Jay Kwabena.” Since I was the new face, I thought it would be proper for me to break the ice.
“Peace god”, one of the brothers said with a smile. “ I am Kofi, also known as David. What house do you belong to?”
“Im Gye-Nyame.”
“Um, I am MChugangi, and that is Leroy he also Kwabena. He’s MChugangi. The two sisters are Jasmine, and Zendria. They also are MChugangi as well.”
“How about the other two brothers?”

“That is Siles and Wise of Gye-Nyame.”
“Cool….nice meeting of you.”
I began to prepare an order of Ginko and peppermint tea when Jasmine came up to me standing there with a beautiful smile.
“ Is it true what they say about Gye-Nyame men?”
Trying to look as cool as possible because this woman was gorgeous, I could not help but to get lost in her smile.
“They say that Gye-Nyame men rule the nation.”
“Oh yeah….”
I started to smile at the thought of the flirting, but I should have known it was a trick?.
She continued, “but Gye-Nyame men are run by MChugangi women.” She started laughing and walked away. Needless to say everyone else was laughing at me as well.
“Bra don’t take it personal. She did the same thing to me and Silas. That is a ongoing joke, let’s say it is your initiation to the kitchen”, Wise said to me in a low voice.
“Why is it so many people from MChugangi are working in the restaurant, I thought they controlled the community activities, drug treatment, and non profits of the organization.”
“They do but all the businesses requires that they be licensed or have degrees. They all are working their way through school.”
“Um, I’m not surprised.”
We both started laughing. My job was pretty easy. I had to make tea, wash dishes, and when it was busy help wait the tables. I found out that everyone working in Brother’s had been in the organization less than three years, and had plans to move up in the family. Wise ran the restaurant, and was damn good. His goal was to move down south and run a chain Of tea houses for the family. Silas was satisfied and just wanted to move up in rank in the Gye-Nyame.

New economy

Initiative for a New Economy’s Diversity Suppl...Image by Office of Governor Patrick via Flickr
New economy/
forces us to change or die/
which choice will you make?/

There are certain things that we have to learn to survive in this new economy. First we have to realize that this is a new economy, and we will  never be going back to the old way. So if you are waiting for a job to be created in the way it has been for the last 80 years, my friend it is not going to happen. So here is a list of things that will help you in this new economy:

1. stop talking hustle, and get one.
2. best way to get and keep a job is to create one
3. join or build a tribe
4. learn to use Internet for more than fb, and tweeting
5. create something that you can sale over Internet.
6. find ways to help others that are trying to help themselves
7. work on developing multiple streams of income.
8. look for opportunities on the Internet, not your next date
9. be on cutting edge in your field
10. stop looking for security in a job, and find it in yourself and your actions
11. be open to change, and support it with your votes, and dollars
12. stop looking for perfection, and put your ideas and products on the market
13. learn to use your fear rather than being dominated by it
14. Get a coach (personal commercial), have someone in your life that can help you turn the bullshit that surrounds you into the fertilizer that will help you grow.
15. step out of your comfort zone, and stay out
16. invest in yourself and ideas that you believe in
17. stop depending on old ways of thinking (I need more degrees and certifications), and become a Master in your Field, by publishing your ideas
18.advertise yourself, and your causes
19. volunteer with, and for worthy causes
20.Stop looking for money, and learn to maximize your opportunities, and resources.
21. support other entrepreneurs because they are the ones that are creating the Jobs and opportunities that will take us into the future.
22.Don't be afraid to make mistakes because they will happen
23. See internet as Real estate: acquire space (property) sell it, or rent out space

By doing a simple Internet search you can find people involved in this new economy and whether you know it or not there is room for you. A prime example of people getting out here and changing the market as we know it is the growing group of African American producers who have stop shopping their movie or documentary ideas in Hollywood. they have begin pooling their personal resources from themselves and Tribe to create movies and shows directly for their audience on the Internet.
Whether we like it or not our whole world is shifting and those that embrace the change will be the one's that make it. because the days of 30 year jobs, and someone else handling your retirement are over. We are beginning to see the flaws in the system coming to the surface. Also the day of super large companies I believe is passing away as well. Don't you die with them.

Road blocks or stepping stones

Tipón Archaeological site - stepping stonesImage via Wikipedia
Road blocks always come/
welcome them and use them as/
stepping stone to top/

First I need to apologize for the mix up for the venue for the training for those that came out and was on their way. At this moment I am re-planning the training and You will be receiving notice of the location and the time for the new start date.
This event  reminded me of one of the major lessons of SelfMastery, being able to take what seems like an obstacle and transforming (alchemy at its most basic level) it into an opportunity. for those that do not know what happened. The venue was double booked and i had to cancel our session because of the mix up. know i could be upset, and just sink down into the "why me" syndrome. Instead I took that time to re-think my approach to the training. i also had an opportunity to discuss the future of SelfMastery with the people that came out. I got to see who was serious about the training, and moving forward with this endeavor.
These things turned out to be more important than the actual training itself. They actually motivated me to keep moving forward. In the hero's Journey and The Rites of Passage (which is one and the same) models we see that for every individual engaged in this process there are always road blocks that pop up to stop the hero or initiate. These are signals that one test the desire, and they also operate as a signal to inform the participant that the right path is being walked. If we think about the implications of this frame of seeing road blocks we can switch our whole world view instantly. Think about how many times you have faced issues when you were trying to make a change in your life, or start something new. when you look at these pop ups as opportunities, and as lessons you grow. You have no choice but to grow because the amount of maturity, patience, forgiveness, and tenacity that you have the use force a change within you. This change becomes a part of your character that others begin to see.
You begin to grow and in your growth you begin to change. this makes those that are around you uncomfortable which may turn out to be another stepping stone or road block for you. On this journey you must come to terms that you may have to travel alone for a while. Because you are slowly being turned into something new, and as it says in the bible you don't put new wine in old bags. Those old bags can't hold the newness and they begin to crack, and they also contaminate  the new wine with old stale wine that was in them before. these old bags are symbolic for old thoughts, old places, and old people in our life. We may have to upgrade, and this is good for you and all things around you. This forces those old Nouns 9people,places, and thing) in your life to grow as well. sometimes we do ourselves a disservice by hanging on to old things because they can stop you from progressing. so take time to analyze your life, and your projects and determine what your road blocks are and step on them and reach for your star. It is waiting for you...

Elder seeks answers- story adapted by ha2tim

IN SPACE - JUNE/JULY 2009: In this composite ...Image by Getty Images via @daylife

I read the original story some years ago and decided to adapt it for the Journey. if anyone out there  know the original story and who wrote it hit me up so that I can give credit. here we go....

Elder focus mind/
your problems begin to fade/
contact source of all/
After years of meditation, contemplation, and analyzing the elder was on the verge of giving up his quest. She was trying to find the key to re-building a healthy community. As a last ditch effort the Elder decided to turn the matter over to her higher power. the Elder prayed night and day focusing on this one problem, and seeking the answer.
She was determined to find the answer because she had watched the community that she belong to descend into a hell like state. Coming from a once proud tribe and community she noticed that the youth no longer respected the elders, and the elders seemed to not care for or about the youth. Materialism was the name of the game and it had consumed everyone around her. these and other problems were running rampant in her Tribe, community, city, and the nation. She decided to dedicate the time she had left in this life to figure out what was missing, or some method of changing these problems around.
She decided to continue her work in the community, and at night she continuously prayed. Sometimes not even sleeping. she attended all types of services and rituals in the community and around the world that were prayer focused. She fasted, sweated, danced, sung, and etc.. With this one problem on her mind.

commercial break the rest of the story will be shared tomorrow.

New Age guerilla tribute to Jimon Jones part II

Che Guevara while participating in an guerrill...Image via Wikipedia

Guerrilla in midst/

Using Hip-Hop as weapon/

Waking consciousness/

I must admit that I didn't understand Jimon's concept of revolution or what he called "guerrilla grime lyph" until I picked up a book called "Guerrilla warfare" by Che Guevara. In this book the world famous revolutionary Che' who came to fame as a major player in the Cuban revolution, described the concept of true guerrilla warfare. He states that the guerrilla fighter is a "social reformer, that takes up arms responding to the angry protest of the people against their oppressors, and that he fights in order to change the social system that keeps all his unarmed brothers in ignominy, and misery. He launches himself against the conditions of the reining institutions at a particular moment and dedicates himself with all the vigor that circumstances permit, to braking the mold of these institutions."
Guerrilla Grime Lyph for Jimon and the young men with him was a battle call for his people. Jimon took up the only arms 9weapons) he could to fight against a system he felt was unfair. what was his weapon of choice? His lyrics. he used his words and music to attack a enemy bigger than himself. he became a new age guerrilla on the attack. When I reflected on the many songs that he wrote, and thought about the impact that Hip-Hop has on american culture. It is more clear to me that music serves as the weapon of choice of many of our young warriors. I can't help but to think how much more evolved my brother would have become if he had not made his transition.
When I look at the definition given by Che Guevara, I can't help but see the method of guerrilla warfare being used in Hip-Hop culture. Hip-Hop is capable of making sweeping social changes in our society. Hip-Hop at one time spoke for those oppressed who do not have a voice for themselves. Hip-Hop (true) was born to launch itself against the conditions of the reigning institutions dedicating its full vigor to braking the mold and hold of these institutions. What was and is America's response to this?
They simple buy them out. Elevate garbage rather than the true message of liberation. Put the pimps and bandits on the radio, and try to ignore the new age guerrilla. Divide and conquer, this system has been using the same techniques and tricks for the last few hundred years, and we (the oppressed0 keep falling for it like we are caught up in the 'ground hog day effect.'
I personally can't blame the system for what they are doing because we play ourselves. If we want to hear the real guerrilla music, and if we really want to see social change we have the opportunity and obligation to put out and support and put it out. We can grab the works of those artist who express the pain of the masses but deliver a message. Rather than supporting those artist that out sickness. The freedom of America allows us to do this. their are thousands of outlets that can be used outside of the mainstream.
Jimon's transition was a wake up call for me. It let me know that the revolution and revelation was already underway. All we have to do is our part. If we sit around and wait for a unifying cry we will miss this golden opportunity. The fighters are in the field, and they are dying because of our lack of support. They are dying because of our criticisms. they are dying because of our lack of guidance. Only Imagine how much farther our struggle would be if the warriors fell under the guidance and wisdom of the community elders. The next question that pops up for me is if our fighters are in the field doing battle where are we? In stead of criticizing maybe we should promote the artist 9guerrilla fighters) that deliver the message that helps. Turn off the radio and look for those new age guerrillas worthy of your support. Believe me they are out their. I was blessed to have one in my midst, and had a chance to watch him grow from a boy to a man, and from a warrior to a NationBuilder.

Fear is back

click to get help over the hump
Fear is a weapon/
Used to confuse ignorant!!/
Are you ignorant?/
Ha2ku by ha2tim

Guess who has reared its ugly head again. Our old friend Fear, yep one of the deadly seven. Actually Fear is the seven (fear, envy, pride, greed ,sloth, lust and anger). fear manifest itself through each one of these seven. it comes into our lives and freezes us in place. keeps us stuck in things we know we need to move beyond. The good news is that fear is a signal that change is coming. we just have gird our loins and push through.
When we stand before fear we are presented with a gift that we have to take a risk to get. look fear in the face that it presents you and chase it away. because it is a coward, it, will not stand before moves made boldly. it will nag you from behind the battlefeild, and your task is too keep moving leaving it so far behind you that you cant even hear its echoe. move boldly on your journey. As Joseph Campbell says "The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek", so what are you waiting for. Don't listen to the media, nor your friends because most the time the message send out feeds your fear, and fear keeps where you are doing what you always done. for those that don't know that is insanity and if we give into our fear we eventually go insane, and end up being a cog in someone elses machine rather than building our own.
So simply live your life and use fear as signal not as a block that stops your progress.

New Age guerilla tribute to Jimon Jones Part I

Che Guevara (Jim Fitzpatrick's style)Image via Wikipedia
Guerrilla in midst/
Using Hip-Hop as weapon/

Waking consciousness/
I woke up today with several things on my mind but one of my ancestors was calling out to me. I have for years been involved in my community as a NationBuilder, and one of the task that I took upon myself was raising boys into men. For years my house was full of young men and their friends. This brought me great joy and great pain. I have lost count of how many young warriors have passed through my house (known by many as the Gye-Nyame house). I have been blessed with the fact that many of these young people developed a love for me and affectionately called me dad or big bra.
Back to the reason I'm writing this piece I woke up with one of the Young men who was in the Gye-Nyame house on my mind heavy. His name was Jimon Jones. He lived next door from me and eventually ended up staying at Gye-Nyame house. Unfortunately he was murdered in the short north. When he died I wrote an article about him and his music. You see one of the ways I was able to work with these young men was that I not only challenged them I encouraged them to pursue their dreams. A few of them including Jimon, Mythic, Midwest Spider and a few others chose to pursue music. When I first heard what they were making I was pissed, but as time went on and I listened and discussed their music with them I began to understand. After Jimon passed I compiled all of the music I could find and put it out as a 2 cd set called "fear none but God vol. I and II. I will be offering them on the blog as soon as I figure out how to get them in the right format for MP3.
Well anyway here is the article that I wrote saluting Jimon and the other warriors involved in the project. its been sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

"For that don't know sks sound like this,
  Berettaguns sound like this,
  Guerrillagrime life ride like this,
Gye-Nyame mother fucker I'm gonna die by this,
I never asked to be a gangster the hood made me this,
I never asked to be a writer God gave me this,
I've always been a fighter and my life and shit,
I'm a mother fuckin rider bitch,
Revolutionary minds"
Jimon Jones some time between 2003-2004

These were words spoken by my little brother on a track called "Revolutionary Minds" on an album entitled "Fear none but God Vol.1". These were words spoken by a true warrior that was struck down early in life.
When I first heard Jimon talking about the  concept he and my other suns came up with 'guerrilla Grime life i thought they had went over the edge. I didn't know at the time that I was in the presence of a modern day messenger, and in many ways a street prophet. It's a shame that we don't recognize genius until it is removed from our presence.

He was cordial. He said he had followed me in the press; I said I had been told of him, and we talked for fifteen or twenty minutes. We both had to leave to make appointments we had, when he dropped on me something whose logic never would get out of my head. Spirit Writing

Spirit Writing

This is an exercise that I have been experimting with over the years.  This helps with my meditation.  In fact it is form of meditation. I call it Spirit writng.  I just calm my mind, put a pen in my hand and begin writing.  I don't go back or erase. I try to open up my heart and let what comes out hit the page.  Here is an example:

"Ancestral intervention will come when we least expect it.  Our ancestors surround us and fill up all the space around us.  Open yourself up so that you can feel their presence. Listen and you can hear them trying to talk to you about things that are and things that will come.  Drop your training, you have been educated not to hear them, open your mind and allow them access and they will expose you to an infinite amount of knowledge.  they will give you the keys to the kingdom.  Why hesitate do you not know that you are not alone in this world.  We have never or will we ever abandon you.  You abandon us.  Out of fear you leave us and stop listening to the wisdom that would set you free.  Your doubt has built a wall between our worlds and if you give us permission we will tear that wall down and build a monument to our unity that will be talked about till the end of time.  My child do you not remember us talking you threw your creation.  Do you not remember us singing to you in the womb.  Do you not remember us rescuing you in your darkest moments of despair.  We are writing for you to wake up to our call.  We know what you have been through, we know what you will go through, allow us to guide you to your magnificent destiny.  Fear not, doubt not, we will appear to you once again in splendor and you will have no reason to fear or doubt anymore.  We know your mind has been warped by this world, but we need you to know that it is not real.  That it is a small reality in the total continuum of things.  The world is designed to keep you in a savge state, and we want to take you from the darkness that surrounds you and put you in the Blaackness of life.  We have spoken to you through your poetry, we have spoken through you in your speeches, we have revealed a whole new way of existence and all you have to do is walk in it,  and all things will be revealed to you and laid at your feet.  Where is your courage, where is your heart.  We will tell you it has been striped away from you and replaced artificially by the courage and the heart of the world.  Re-awaken the real you. You are the maker and shaper of reality.  All these things you already know, but again your doubt is the last chain that this world has on you. Relax your heart and mind and trust in us for we trust in you.  We know that you will open up to us.  You do that by doing what you know.  Live what you know and we will go before you and prepare the way.  We will knock down every obsticle.  Take time  to do what you are doing now, and consult us.  It's not hard just open your heart and we will flow through.  Allow us to move you through it by doing.  You know what's right, you know what you must do, Teach. Teach even if no one is listening, we will bring the people.  If you have to teach the trees, rocks, empty space, we will feel it with the heart and minds of the people.  You will attract those that vibe as you you vibrate you will attract people of all groups of all ages and you will fufill your destiny."
So pick up those pens and see what will come through you.
