A Look At Our Current Reality - Reaching Umoja

Image
Unity is important, because it helps us to see that we can be like the branches of a tree — each with our own unique size, shape and position. But when we come together as one strong trunk, great things happen! We can help others in so many ways. Think about all the times you have been helped by someone else — a parent or older sister; perhaps a teacher at school — maybe even someone you don’t know! Now think about the times when you have helped others — when you have encouraged your little brother to persevere through his homework; or maybe when you took care of stray dogs in your neighborhood. Lastly, think about how helping other people makes you feel inside. It’s good for them and it’s good for us too! You may not realize it but helping others is part of Unity. By doing this we make each other stronger. We lift each other up, and Life becomes easier for everyone concerned. And when we live Life this way then everything works better: families get on better; communities work better t

Spoiled

Image
Why spoil your children/ Then send them to public school/ Expecting some growth/ This Ha2ku is not just about spoiled kids, and then again it is. If we want to set standards for ourselves and others that is cool, but when we expect and even in some cases demand that others abide by these standards, we are not being realistic. I think that every parent, every lover, and every friend should spoil those closest to them, but to do this and not prepare them for the cold world is setting the spoiled up for a terrible crash. When the spoiled are flung into an environment that is not designed to cater to them they may not be able to handle the situation, which can lead to failure. This thought hit me as I was dealing with some young people that could not adjust to the school environment. When we spoil individuals then we need to willing to provide and give them what they need. For example, if you feel that you need to spoil and smother your child with attention then "Home School"

Number 7

Image
Image by Leo Reynolds via Flickr Seven looks backward/ Study, rest, and perfection/ It's view of the world/ Discovered that I had not completed the number system so here you go and we complete the reat of the numbers before the end of the year. After this one we only have 2 more to go, and then maybe in 2012 I will try to wrestle with the zero... Seven is the masculine number that represents study rest and perfection. This is a crucial number in the process of development. Because in order to move forward it mus look to the past. This number is very similar to the indinkra symbol Sankofa. To look back the number 7 must stop, and rest and in its resting it builds power to move to the next level.  Perfection is a process that requires proper rest and study. When we study we sit still and focus our mind, and that is important when we are dealing with this number. It is said that if we do not obey the mandate of 7 and continue to try to move forward. The universe will find

Meditation Balances the Body's Systems

Image
Image via Wikipedia I happened to be looking up some info about meditatition  for a group that I was doing, and decided to share an article I found. Actually this article started a few days ago when one of my elders sent me a video about transcedental meditation. Since I use some meditation techniques in my classes I decided to share  this information on my blog as well. I have decided that for the next 30 days I will meditate at least twice a day and blog about my experience. I am also challenging all my co authors, and members of  Gye-Nyame to do the same. Science is not only showing the healing properties of meditation on the individual's body, but has also shown that meditation also effects the world around us as well. So if I can get 50 people meditating with me for 30 days twice a day we can change the world. hahahahaa. Seriously I am putting out the challenge to all those on  the Journey, Meditate with me for the next 30 days or how ever many days our left. i started thur

Stop looking at my finger

Image
Don't look at finger/ look at path that it shows you/ Now walk on your path/ I have noticed that many times when I am giving advice that people will focusing on what I am doing rather than looking at where they need to be going. This is a fatal mistake for those on the Journey. When someone is giving directions to go somewhere it is always best to listen and look toward what they are pointing to rather than focusing your attention on them. I guess this is something that come with the culture that we have come up in. Many times people are looking for scapegoats to place their mistakes and faults on rather than just taking personal responsibility for their own stuff. So they begin to focus on their guide and what the guide is doing rather than focusing their effort on getting where they need to be. We all want a perfect person to guide us and give us instructions for this life, but the fact is we are all flawed and if you are basinng your decision on success, salvation, joy, prosper

How the Illusion of Being Observed Can Make You a Better Person: Scientific American

Image
Image by scottwills via Flickr This an interesting article for those o the journey. the question for me is how can I use information like this to improve my life? How could I use the fact that someone watching me even an inanimate object could force me to be at my best. This reminds me of what religion use to do for society. When everyone is convinced  that they are being watched by a higher being it motivates them to alwas do their best, and more importantly do what's right. Where has this feeling gone? Have we advance so far that we have dropped the idea that we are being watched by other worldly beings that monitor and judge our every step. Sounds intrusive, but it serves it purpose. I often state that we need to operate as if the next seven generations depends on our action now I am switching this statement to " My Ancestors and the 7 generations to come are all watching me and depending on me to be the best person I can be." How you choose to use this info is your

Elder seeking answers- Part II

Image
Image via Wikipedia Recieving visions/ from dedicated mission/ teaching by doing/ After years of dedication to her tasked. the Elder received a visit from the Spirit realm . her Ancestors through the power of the Creator came to her while asleep. Her deceased grandmother took the lead role because she would recognize her. Our Elder was amazed at the Axe' of this being it flowed around her and through her grandmother. It Shined so bright that the Elder had to cover her eyes. The ancestor then announced to the Elder that she was there to answer her question and show her the key to righting things in the world again. the Ancestor embraced the elder and took her first to see what the ancestor called a community in hell.  When they arrived the place was in total disaray. trash littered the area, nothing appeared to be taking care of. The community of adults and children sat at a gigantic round table and you could hear the arguing, and disrespect taking place. Youth did not

Road blocks or stepping stones

Image
Image via Wikipedia Road blocks always come/ welcome them and use them as/ stepping stone to top/ First I need to apologize for the mix up for the venue for the training for those that came out and was on their way. At this moment I am re-planning the training and You will be receiving notice of the location and the time for the new start date.  This event  reminded me of one of the major lessons of SelfMastery, being able to take what seems like an obstacle and transforming (alchemy at its most basic level) it into an opportunity. for those that do not know what happened. The venue was double booked and i had to cancel our session because of the mix up. know i could be upset, and just sink down into the "why me" syndrome. Instead I took that time to re-think my approach to the training. i also had an opportunity to discuss the future of SelfMastery with the people that came out. I got to see who was serious about the training, and moving forward with this endeavor. These th

Elder seeks answers- story adapted by ha2tim

Image by Getty Images via @daylife I read the original story some years ago and decided to adapt it for the Journey. if anyone out there  know the original story and who wrote it hit me up so that I can give credit. here we go.... Elder focus mind/ your problems begin to fade/ contact source of all/ After years of meditation, contemplation, and analyzing the elder was on the verge of giving up his quest. She was trying to find the key to re-building a healthy community . As a last ditch effort the Elder decided to turn the matter over to her higher power. the Elder prayed night and day focusing on this one problem, and seeking the answer. She was determined to find the answer because she had watched the community that she belong to descend into a hell like state. Coming from a once proud tribe and community she noticed that the youth no longer respected the elders, and the elders seemed to not care for or about the youth. Materialism was the name of the game and it had consumed
