Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade

Image
Conservatism, Reaction, and the Elder's Responsibility: A Message to My Age Grade Great Day, Fam. This one right here? It’s not for everyone. If you’re not at or approaching Eldership—defined in our tribe as about 55 years old and up—you might not feel all of this. But if you’re curious, or if you’re one of those younger souls already walking with wisdom, you’re welcome to keep reading. This message is for the Elders. For those of us who should know better. And yes—I’m including myself. Let’s Start With the Mirror I’ve got to confess something. I’ve been guilty. Guilty of being reactionary. Guilty of falling into the trap of conservatism. Guilty of romanticizing the past. Guilty of looking at our young people and calling them “soft”—as if we were born warriors, as if we didn’t have to become who we are through fire, failure, and guidance. Many of us Elders are stuck in a loop. We remember only the highlights of our youth—the toughest times we survived, the boldest moments ...

Let's Talk About Some Super Foods

Image
Let's Talk About Some Super Foods Introduction When I first heard the term "superfood," it sounded like a made-up word that would soon join the ranks of other popular foodie terms, like "locavore" and "farm-to-table." But the people who coined this term did so for a reason; superfoods are packed with ingredients that promote health, boost energy levels, and nourish your body. Some of them have been around for centuries. Others were recently heralded into existence by the media or public personalities. Read on to learn about some of my favorite superfoods—and don't be afraid to try one yourself! Raw Honey Raw Honey is defined as the honey that has not been heated above 45 degrees Celsius, which is the temperature at which enzymes are killed. Raw honey contains many health benefits because of its properties: high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals helps with allergies and asthma problems by strengthening the immune system. If you have seasonal a...

Culture & Food- Daily Toast Kuumba 63171

My FAM: I appreciate your eyes & the time you spend reading my post. It is amazing that through your dedication and inspiration I have been able to post daily. I thank you a thousand times and pray and toast that our ancestors will push you on your chosen path to success. Yesterday we had an opportunity to discuss the connection between food and Culture. We were introduced to a field that was created to explore this relationship and with that information I believe help in further conquest of other's Culture. We explored the difference between one feeding and one eating, and I ask the question which one are you involved with. Because one is directly linked to culture and the other is just about getting energy to work. Our relationship with food defines us as well as our connection with our ancestors and have direct effects on our health. So take some time and and view this long video ( I promise I am trying to reduce the amount of time I spend on the video but sometimes m...

"That Lemon Lime & Ginger Ambrosia"

Image
"That Ambrosia" is a drink that was created for those on the Journey. I felt that we were in need of something to replace the unhealthy sugar drinks that we are consuming. "That Ambrosia" is a live beverage that helps you with gut health. It provides healthy yeast and bacteria that are involved in an alchemical process of fermentation. They transform the ingredients of raw unpasturized honey, and green tea into an elixir that is tasty as well as good for you. I decided to begin experimenting with other herbs to enhance the healing properties that may already be in this drink (read my last post about "That Ambrosia"). Before we go into the lemon, lime, and ginger, let's discuss the gut and some of the issues that may arise from an unhealthy gut. Then we can look at the first combination I added to my line of elixirs. The gut or as it is also none the digestive system is composed of the mouth, esophagus, throat, stomach, pancreas, gall bladder, colon/an...

GNJ presents "That Ambrosia"

Image
"That Ambrosia" is a brain child that I have been working on for the last 2 years. I started by experimenting with fermenting honey to make mead. I love mead but it would take long periods of time to get a product worth sharing, plus I wanted something with a few more benefits. I knew at the time that I did not want to use sugar in any of my drinks and that was about the time that  I stumbled on the health benefits of raw honey. Honey had been used for thousands of years and many properties of honey were recognized by ancient healers like: Honey is antibacterial, and antifungal It helps in healing and cleaning out wounds Helps with digestion soothes sore throats and finally it is filled with phytonutrients  (which is a substance believed to be beneficial in the fight against certain diseases) Honey is powerful but the most powerful thing that I discovered and fell in love with was the fermentation process. The fermentation process in my opinion is true alchemy. This i...

Gye-Nyame Steaming Journey

Image
This a lunch I put together in my steamer. Actually it took me longer to post this, than it did to make the meal. It is simply some fresh eggplant, zuccini (which was given to me by a parent, grown in her garden) onion, garlic, radish, bell peper, and carrot. Later I will add a little spicey tomatoe sauce, and eat in less than 20 minutes. Try it out or share some of your steamed meals for me to try.
