If Everyone Does a Little, No One Has to Do a Lot: A Lesson in Collective Responsibility

If Everyone Does a Little, No One Has to Do a Lot: A Lesson in Collective Responsibility The thoughts have been hitting me hard lately, and I realized I need to get back to blogging on a daily basis. Of course, I’m always doing too much, but I wanted to dedicate some time each day to writing. My idea was to align my blogs with the principles of the Nguzo Saba—so, for example, today being Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), I could write something that connects to that concept. Over time, this content could be compiled into something greater. And speaking of something greater, my family and I are gearing up for a trip to Ghana. That means I’ll be documenting our journey—shoutout to Ms. Sasha, who just got her passport! She’s officially stepping into the world as an international young lady of mystery and leisure. Our trip will take us from Columbus to New York, where we’ll spend a few hours exploring the city before catching a flight to Nairobi, Kenya. We’ll have a long layover there, ...

Give Yourself Permission Listeners

I would like to welcome all of my new listeners, thank you for joining the Journey. Together we will explore the world, better ourselves, and accomplish our goals. When I first started #giveyourselfpermission I did not expect to build up a network so quickly. I stress the word network because that is what we have become. Daily you tune in and give me the blessing of your time, the gift of your listening ear and I just open my mouth and pray that what comes out will help, and inspire who ever tunes in. This show is yours and by investing your time you create the content. I have decided to throw another hash-tag out to mark our territory, #asmilethenamile. This hash-tag is how we will be able to share our progress on the Journey with each other. I encourage each listener to begin your own program of personal mastery. I chose to meditate for at least 10 minutes which brings a smile to my face, and then I hit my mile run which takes me about 10 minutes. These small steps are my personal wa...

#giveyourselfpermission - To Be Free

Image
#giveyourselfpermission to be free. Release all those things that have held you down. We are moving into a new time and place and by allowing ourselves to be stuck we risk being left behind. Free yourself from the prison of your own creation, and move past your self imposed limitations. Began to release the true you that has been kept under raps, because of your insecurity. Stop trying to fit in at the expense of your soul. Freedom is not free and never has been. The cost is you facing the consequences of your choices. Freedom requires us to look reality straight in the face, and live what we see. This can cause pain especially if you have been avoiding this for your entire life. Freedom requires new eyes that are not scared to look into the pit of our own soul and rescue those dreams that we banished there. Many of us are like people who are on a sinking ship who refuse to let go of the rail to be pulled on the rescue raft. Don't get it confused we cannot not have it both ways. ...

#goodmourning

I woke up this morning and realized that I was dreaming about one of my elders, and I was faced with the fact that he had passed away. At first I was sad , but then remembering some of the lessons that he had given me during our time together I began to celebrate and it made it easier for me. Mourning is a process that we must go through in order to let go of what was and face what is. Mourning helps us embrace the present moment whole. When we refuse to mourn we hold onto old things that no longer serve a purpose in our life. They begin to weigh us down and make our journey harder than it needs to be. I realized why the words mourning and morning sound so much alike, because they are in essence the same thing. When we first awake a part of us wants to stay sleep, because sleep is comfortable, and in most cases in the western world it is safe, but the fact is that we must get up at some point and face the day, So we have to say goodbye to the dream world, push the covers off, rise, g...

#yearofthe#

The Phoenix- Symbol of transcendence & transformation This is your time to leave your mark on the world. On the Journey this year my goal is to wake you up and help you move into your birthright. Many of us have been comfortable playing in the shadows, and hiding our light. Now is the time to awaken. The world is in need of your ideas The world is need of you skills The world is in need of your talents The world is in need of your light So stop hiding, and allow yourself to shine. You are the one we have been waiting for, and now I am asking you to "Wake up and Leave your mark on the world!" That's why I am calling this the #yearofthe#, because those of you bold enough to join the Journey, through the books, podcast, and events will begin to leave your mark first on the internet, then in  life, and then upon world.
