DROP THE DEAD WEIGHT

DROP THE DEAD WEIGHT https://www.spreaker.com/episode/drop-the-dead-weight--70682050 You are exhausted, and it’s not because you aren't strong enough. It’s because you are carrying things that were never meant for your back. Today we look at Ujima—Collective Work and Responsibility—but we are looking at it in reverse. Most of us think community means we have to save everybody. We think being a solid Brother or a strong Sister means drowning ourselves to keep someone else afloat. But what if true collective power can only be unlocked when we stop trying to be the hero? What if the key to our liberation isn't doing more, but aggressively stripping away the false responsibilities we’ve absorbed over the years? We've been lied to about what it means to carry our community. Let’s talk about how to drop the cape and cut the ties. Call to Inaction: “A tree does not hold onto dead leaves; it lets them fall so it can breathe.” Take a moment today to reflect on what you need to rel...

The Legend of the Leaf

Image
This is for those that are looking for a challenge. This legend was created during the UGRR days and has persisted throughout all of the incarnations of the family. It was designed to help the members stay in shape, and also develop their focus. In the early days the family would go to the woods at least 4 times a year and walk through them. We would admire the changing quality of nature. The four times would be during the beginning of each season. We would walk until we hit our tribal center at the banks of Nile (OlentanGYE river). In this simple exercise you would have to be open and aware of your environment. As a leaf started falling toward the earth you would to have to focus on the one you were going to catch and pursue it. Don't be fooled catching a falling leaf is not as eas...

Trials of Gye Long ago, before time was counted and broken down into small units designed to eat up our lives, there existed a proud people that dwelled in what we call the east. They existed in peace and harmony from the beginning. These people called themselves Black, naming themselves after the color of the earth from which they came. These people were many but divided into different tribes each one being led by their own chief. There was never a need for all of the people to come together because there was plenty of resources for them to exist in harmony. In one of the tribes, lived a young man by the name of Gye. Gye was the eldest son of a chief named Conive and was in line to rule his tribe. Gye had a younger brother name Sen who was very jealous of Gye's position. Sen happened to be chief Conive's favorite. Together they often schemed to make Gye look bad before the people and to throw him into disfavor. Sen was in constant competition with Gye, and won most of...
