  We love the theater of breaking chains. We celebrate walking away from the plantation, quitting toxic jobs, and telling foreign gatekeepers where to stick their rules. But in our frantic rush to escape the iron, too many of us are making a fatal mistake: we’re swinging the axe so recklessly that we’re chopping off our own roots. The proverb warns us: "If you cut your chains, you free yourself; if you cut your roots, you die." A severed branch looks green for a few days under the hot sun. It might even fool itself into believing it is finally unburdened and free to fly. But without the taproot driving deep into the dark earth, its destiny is rot and dust. That isn't liberation—it's spiritual suicide. When you strip away your cultural memory, abandon your elders, mock sacred ritual, and bleach your tongue just to sit at an elite table, you haven't freed yourself.
