Let’s Stop Using the Term “Racist” and Start Saying “Anti-Black”

Let’s Stop Using the Term “Racist” and Start Saying “Anti-Black” I’ve been on a run this week, and maybe it’s the sunlight, the ability to walk without a jacket, or just the feeling of movement, but I’ve been deep in thought. One thought that’s been sitting with me is how we talk about oppression. Specifically, how we use the term “racist” when we should be saying “anti-Black.” The Power of Precision in Language This idea first hit me while watching a video by an Arab woman discussing Zionism. Before she even began, she made it clear that she was being careful with her words because she didn’t want to be labeled “anti-Semitic.” That caught my attention. Why? Because “anti-Semitic” is a precise term. It specifically refers to discrimination against Jewish people. It doesn’t leave room for debate about whether someone is just “generally prejudiced” or if they have “friends from different backgrounds.” It zeroes in on a particular issue. Compare that to the word “racist.” It’s bro...

Daily Toast- Imani 226171 (The Conspiracy Of You)

Image
The greatest conspiracy that is never talked about is the conspiracy of "YOU". I am here to tell you as we step into Imani, that it is important that you consider this fact. Take time to reflect on your life and recognize that everything that has happened to you good or bad has lead you to this very moment. I know many of you can't believe this because we have been condition to believe that we are little cogs in a machine called the universe, and our existence is not worthy of cosmic intervention. I am here to tell you that you are worthy, and you need to etch this idea into your mind. You need to look at the evidence called your life. Look at the things that have happened in your past, I mean even before you were born that set the stage for you. You are the star of your life, and you need to embrace this fact, and wake up and catch the hints that have been coming your way, and will continue coming your way. The very universe is working on your behalf. So take some time d...

On Ujima we discussed proverbs from the "African Openings To the Tree Of Life", and the one that gave me the most problems came to life when I reflected on it during Ujamaa. Ujamaa is about harnessing those personal resources so that we can build that life that we want. I want go into it you can listen to some of my past podcast, or checkout some of the videos for Ujamaa to get a grasp of what I mean. While harnessing my resources for another project, the thought of the proverb echoed in my mind. I pushed the thought back and got focused on my present project. But the proverb kept coming to the surface like a fisherman's bobber. I could not recall the proverb, but I could remember some key words that kept ringing, prostrate, awaken, suffering, and horizon. So I took a few minutes and began to google and that is when the answers came rushing in. Before I get into it, I want to share the link from last night's Tribal Quotes  . Listen in and share your comments about th...

Catch Up

Many awaken believing that they are owed the day, but those on the Journey realize that each day is an opportunity for  growth, and most importantly Greatness. This particular saying is one that I developed through my youngest sun. He rises early with me and seems to never have a problem rising no matter what time I awaken him. One day he was moving slower than usual and this statement came out.
