If Everyone Does a Little, No One Has to Do a Lot: A Lesson in Collective Responsibility

If Everyone Does a Little, No One Has to Do a Lot: A Lesson in Collective Responsibility The thoughts have been hitting me hard lately, and I realized I need to get back to blogging on a daily basis. Of course, I’m always doing too much, but I wanted to dedicate some time each day to writing. My idea was to align my blogs with the principles of the Nguzo Saba—so, for example, today being Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), I could write something that connects to that concept. Over time, this content could be compiled into something greater. And speaking of something greater, my family and I are gearing up for a trip to Ghana. That means I’ll be documenting our journey—shoutout to Ms. Sasha, who just got her passport! She’s officially stepping into the world as an international young lady of mystery and leisure. Our trip will take us from Columbus to New York, where we’ll spend a few hours exploring the city before catching a flight to Nairobi, Kenya. We’ll have a long layover there, ...

An Offer You Can't Refuse

 An Offer You Can't Refuse

Great Umoja:

We have entered a new cycle once and those that want to start a new challenge can jump on board, those that want to solidify a goal can join, those that struggled on your last challenge can try again. We welcome everyone to join us on this next 7 week journey. I don’t know what you are reaching for but whatever it is we can help you here at the Journey. This 7 weeks i am going to continue writing but i am not going to be pressing myself and stressing out. I will continue to create the exclusives for the supporters, and continue to work toward getting our first 100 supporters. Checkout the Blog and let us know if there's anything that you want us to cover, or if there is something that you would like to add.

I took some veg time and sat back and enjoyed a show suggested to me by one of my brothers. He knew that I was a fan of the Godfather and figured that I would like the Paramount + series "The Offer", and he was right. This was a great series and I would suggest that those that like the Godfather movies will love the series like I did.

Now the challenge is to pull the lesson of Umoja out of this and that is easy. The first thing that you will notice when you watch the series is that you find out how hard it was to take the Godfather from book to movie script, and from the script to the theater. Now I could walk you through all of the steps, and point all of our principles out but I won't do that. The important part to realize is that around the vision of this movie a team came together like Voltron and struggled to make it happen.

As leaders and builders sometimes the only thing we have is a vision, and we have to build our tribes up upon that vision. We have to deal with the vision falling out of focus, being doubted and all of the challenges of fulfilling what to others may seem impossible, but when we are able to pull on the five parts of ourselves it makes it easier for us to help others which leads to the Umoja in the group to bring the vision to reality.

I constantly remind the tribe that what we do is not easy, but if we don’t do it who will? The same goes for you, if you are not living your Nia who will. The fact of the matter is that when we live in our Nia we give others around us permission to do their thing. You never know who may be watching and is looking for their cue to begin their life from you. We all affect the whole, and many of us are so busy trying to shrink away from who and what we are, that we never notice the ripples that we are making in life.

Also the other part of the movie that reped the principle of Umoja for me was, the Italian community pulling together to fight against the production of the movie. It was good seeing this type of reaction from the group, and how effective it can be if everyone is on the same page, or at least in the same book. According to the movie the Italian Civil Rights group was a Mafia front, but who knows? The same people that pulled the reports together on that group are the same type of people that have been framing, bugging, and harassing my people for years. So we may never know the whole truth. Because Unity can be complicated., and it can bring many different types of people together for a common goal. Nevertheless there are many lessons that can be pulled out for yourself as well as for your group.

In our collectives (tribes), and in our mindsets we have to be on constant look out for those opportunists that will sell you and the whole group down the river for a few pieces of silver. Now for us to move forward we have to be on the lookout for opportunities but we have to measure them against our principle. In Gye-Nyame  to help keep everyone focused toward Umoja we ask three questions of opportunities that pop up:1.is it honorable? 2.Will it violate my loyalties? 3. What is  the sacrifice?

Of course we have to always make sure that it lines up with Maat.

See you tomorrow:
