Control Your Kuumba, Or Your Kuumba Will Control Your Life

Image
Control Your Kuumba, Or Your Kuumba Will Control Your Life Great Kujichagulia: Today we will look at controlling our Kuumba. Kuumba is a powerful tool, but we have to exercise our Kujichagulia in dealing with it. Our ancestors' first rule upon entering a temple as a disciple was control of thought, but for us it is control of our imagination. Time and time again I have witnessed people creating their own hell that spills out to everyone around them. These people have plenty of Kuumba but lack the kujichagulia to control their creation. This comes from the luxury that our ancestors labor, blood, sweat and tears have created for us, more free time. We have people wasting this powerful resource to play mind games with themselves. They sit at home, offices, coffee shops, etcConcocting fuckery that usually takes a hold and causes confusion.   “Kuumba is a powerful energy that lets each of us create. But we need to use our kujichagulia to control it.” Our Imagination is like a horse, and

Unity Of Kuumba

Image
Unity of Kuumba Great Umoja in this week of Kuumba: I am excited to begin this week. I think that we need to go a little further in Kuumba to help you create the practices that will help you move to the next level. I believe (Imani) there is no better place for this to happen than the week of Kuumba. So let's jump in! “We need to shift our thinking about Kuumba.” Great Umoja and today we are once again talking about the Unity of Kuumba. We will return to this combination many more times, in fact in this system we will return and converse about all the combinations of the Principles over and over again. This helps us move through the 3 levels of learning. Today we want to talk about how we can use Kuumba to strengthen our Umoja, and I will share some of the GNJ methods so that you can incorporate them, or have an idea for your path. “Groups, Organizations and Societies that use Kuumba to reinforce Umoja will flourish and grow.” We spoke yesterday about the 3 levels of learning on

Kuumba & Purpose

Image
Kuumba & Purpose Great Kuumba: Being on Nia requires us to be able to adjust our plans, and a lot of times this may happen in the midst of action. This means that of course we have to have a close relationship with Kuumba. Kuumba is directly linked to our intuition which allows us to plug into the ancestral realm, and pull on wisdom much older than we are. Kuumba will begin to flow in us as we establish our Imani in ourselves, and begin to trust our skills. This happens because in the pursuit of our Nia we begin to practice, and from the practice we develop the confidence in our skills, and this allows us to fall in the “Zone”. This is also described in the  literature as the flow state. When We are able to reach this state in the pursuit of our purpose we can begin to release our creativity. The act of creation feeds on confidence, and the flow state happens because we have done the work necessary to move on to a kind of auto pilot, and since we don’t have to focus on what we ar

Kuumba Can Free Us!......Maybe

Kuumba Can Free Us!......Maybe Great Kuumba: It is the start of another day, and I want to greet you and thank you for checking out this blog and hopefully you have joined the email list or maybe even considered becoming a supporter. We have made it to our Kuumba post and eventual show. We are in the week of Ujamaa and it flew through. I can't say it was easy, but it was fast. In changing up my schedule I have thrown myself totally off, right now I am at my adventure, and have on the wrong day shirt. I guess it will take a few more weeks before I am totally in sync with my style. Every day I am trying to create content of value for you to get and use. The most surprising thing for me is that I am not a Kuumba baby, because I spend a lot of time at her altar. Each and every day is a creative event for me so believe me when I say I am no stranger to Ms. Kuumba. Now Let's get to the discussion. “Ujamaa is about more than just living in a community. It is truly about working toge

Great Kuumba Congratulations you have been born in a legendary time. I am serious, we are standing in the midst of a crisis point in history, and you have the opportunity to take action that will mark you down in the historical memory of your people. But before you go out and conquer the world please take some time to conquer yourself, or better yet align yourself with your Culture, and principles. The world is in the middle of changes that are happening so fast that people are lost. If you don't believe me just take some time and think about the changes you have experienced in your life. It used to be that the only way you could be heard was to be selected by a big corporation and pushed. We are now standing in a time where we can actually share our talents, and skills with the world (no middle man needed). When I was young I used to dream about being on TV. Now I get up every morning and do a show. I never thought that I would be able to do something like that, but that is the

Creator Speak

Image
Great Kuumba: We have made it through week two of this cycle's challenge and I want to salute all of you that are participating and hanging in there. I know that it can be hard dealing with these questions, getting up for the Toast Ritual, writing and moving more than usual, but believe me (My fault), don't believe me believe the process. The process that you are going through now was created over a long period of trial and error, but we got it together. As a matter of fact this process is a living testament to Kuumba. It was through following the process that this system even emerged. Realize that where you are I was... I will just leave it at that, I was struggling trying to figure out what my Ancestors were trying to tell me through their "crystalized wisdom" (write this term down because it will continue to pop up throughout the process). One proverb always stood out, I must admit that it was not my favorite but it was the one that held the secret I needed. The qu

Kuumba - The Illusion Of Disunity 2

Image
Great Kuumba: Second day without a podcast I am going to have to make this one twofer. We are going to continue with the discussion about the illusion of disunity. Today of course coming from the principle of Kuumba. Kuumba for those of you that are new to the culture means creativity. I am throwing out the idea that disunity is not a problem in our community. I believe that it is a manufactured illusion that is being powered by us. Wisdom — as it goes — is knowing what to do next. And creativity is the ability to seek out solutions to our problems. Consequently, wisdom and creativity go together like peanut butter and jelly. But what happens when we use our creative powers to create ignorance? What happens when we use our wisdom to create foolishness? We get ideas running through our communities and lives causing pain and suffering. The illusion of disunity is a major focus for today, although I could hit on many others. The reason why it's important is because it affects how we

Story & Faith

Image
Revolutions & Revolutionaries don't just happen. It takes a combination of hard work and faith to become one. And it also takes a great storyteller, someone who understands history and knows how to craft the story that will pull us all together as a tribe, and hold us together as a nation. Do you have some around you like this? Are you someone that can craft a story that holds people together? This requires someone that can see where we are and have faith in our ability to move beyond it. This person is a perfect mixture of Kuumba and Imani walking in our world. Today we are on Kuumba, looking through the lens of Imani, the faith in the stories we tell ourselves. Hopefully you are telling stories that will move you beyond where you are now, and that won't keep you stuck. If you need help with this type of thing you need to check us out here at GNJ.Media ... The Power of Imani

Image
I’m in a room of people and I see the strongest black woman I have ever met. She walks with the stride of an African queen and the smile of an angel. She is intelligent, beautiful and powerful beyond measure, but for some reason she does not believe that she is worthy. She does not believe that she deserves to be free from the shackles of systemic racism, or that she deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. This woman believes her destiny is in the hands of everyone but herself. She has lost her faith in her ability to positively impact her own life. This woman has lost sight of the power that lies within her. The power to do anything, be anything, and create anything she desires. This woman needs to regain her faith in our Ancestors, their ability to influence events in our favor, the power of our Kuumba to shape, mold, and protect our lives, and above all else, she needs to regain her faith in herself. For it is this faith that will instill confidence in the actions we take t

4 Steps for Cultivating Creativity (Sample)

Image
Cultivating your creativity is a skill you can learn, and one that can help you build a world that reflects your culture. Here are four steps to get you started: 1. Embrace your culture and yourself. 2. Be aware of forces that seek to destroy you by attacking everything about you, including your mind, body, emotions, spirit, culture and tradition. Don't let those forces convince you that everything about you is bad, wrong and/or evil! 3. Focus on creating balanced growth and change in yourself and the community around you—this will make a difference! 4. Have faith in your personal power and the power of your collective To go more in depth with this concept and get some more tips check us out at: Follow

Kuumba: The Creative Aspect Of Purpose, Self-Discovery & Growth (Sample)

Image
Kuumba is the Swahili word for “creativity.” Creativity is why we're here. We live in a world that's far more abundant than most people realize. The earth and heavens are overflowing with natural resources that are ready to be tapped into if we were only able to refine our skill at harvesting them by applying creativity to the mix. Nia helps us to develop skills that help us to identify opportunities and channel our creativity so that it shows up on our doorsteps in the form of money, cars, houses, career paths, relationships, answers, solutions—you name it! The more confident you become at using your creative ability at home, the more expansive you will likely feel in your everyday life—and what's a revolution without a little abundance? Follow

Ujamaa---Unleashing The Full Potential Of Our Kuumba

Image
Have you ever felt an overwhelming desire to do good for your people and community, but felt like you didn't have the resources or know-how to make a difference? If so, you're not alone. We've been conditioned to believe that our impact is limited to the amount of money we spend or the number of hours we volunteer. But what if there was a way to reach more people and make a bigger impact without spending a dime? Ujamaa is about learning how to share resources and cooperate so that we can build up our communities and move to the next phase of nation building. But it appears that many of us overlook the goldmine that is sitting right under our own feet. We think that our wealth sits outside of us in houses, cars, clothes, shoes or other material possessions, when in fact the only thing we truly possess are the five parts of our being. We are in the world today struggling to survive when we have not yet unleashed the full potential of our Kuumba. We have unleashed it for other

How Kuumba Is Important For Buildin' Collectives (Sample)

Image
The principle of Kuumba is important when it comes to building collectives. Creativity is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness. When it comes to building a collective, this means the use of creativity that allows the invention of stories, rituals, ceremonies, initiations etc.. That allows for the building and maintaining of a collective. Kuumba also means to leave your community more beautiful and beneficial than you inherited it. When it comes to the building of a collective this means leaving behind stories, doctrine and legacies that help the next generation build on their foundation. This includes sharing resources such as books, journals and other materials that help build on the foundation you started. Kuumba has also been used in its literal sense which is to make something happen because someone wanted it to happen or is making an effort that makes it happen. This can be seen in social movements as they are often made up of people who want
