Cerebro Playlist (Storm9000)

Image
I woke up to a pleasent surprise. Brother Storm9000 dropped a sneak peak album on sound cloud. He is working on his Cerebro Playlist. I am looking forward to the realese in late June. He has dropped four short tracks that let you know that he still got the magic touch. Unfortunately I don't have the name of the artist on these tracks except brother Malik on track 4. These four tracks are the harnbinger of the heat that Storm9000 will be dropping this summer, so take some time listen and support one of Columbus's best. In fact I will say that Storm9000 is one of the best in the world. Taking a minute and listen to the sample and I am sure that you will be excited for the summer release like I am. Cerebro Playlist

Music & Culture - Daily Toast Kuumba 527171

Peace FAM: We once again talk about culture, at the beginning I was joined by my girls, but they soon abandoned ship for a movie. This left me the space to have some adult conversation with y'all. We are neglecting the power of culture and the tools of culture, and we will not be able to march very much further in this highly competitive, and race based world if we don't start learning the lessons, and building for our future. Music is such a powerful tool that we have allowed to be hijacked. I recently was at a talent show, and the young people sang, and danced, but all of the songs that my (our) children chose were from white artist. All the songs were about pushing beyond limits and inspirational. I had to laugh because I could not think of any age appropriate songs by a Black artist that my kids could sing that fit that model. We have allowed our culture to be pimped, and turned into a weapon against us. I for one will not stand for it. We have radio stations in our com

The Magic Hour

Image
The idea of starting this show came from a conversation I had with one of my brothers. This was long before the internet was in our pockets and shaping our lives the way it does today. We made a plan to create a internet radio station called "GyeWeb Radio", that independent artist could use to promote their music. We wanted to provide a venue for the unheard artist to air and promote their skills. The ultimate goal was to help independent artist build a fan base outside of the main music industry and develop a revenue stream to support what they do. We felt that the industry was choking the life out of Hip-Hop, and we had a grand plan to save it. Unfortunately the cost at this time would have been in the 10's of thousands of dollars. With the financial crisis looming and by getting caught up in the "Great Real-Estate Hustle" we didn't have the money to finance the project. Fast forward about 10 years and now with the advancements in the internet and the dev

Game Changers- 1Hood

Image
Now, I knew that my brothers  +jasiri X  and  +Paradise Gray  were in Pittsburgh NationBuilding, but to see the video shines a long needed light on the work that they have been doing. These brothers have moved the concept of hood media to another level. By setting up an academy that arms young people with media and the skills to control their images, they have empowered a generation of thinkers that will definitely have a say in the direction are communities go in. I only hope other youth groups embrace the model and begin to use media to build the images that they want to see rather than be victims to the images that are being produced for them and the world to see. Media is the new front lines and I salute 1Hood for building our Special Forces. checkout the video: Watch "Game Changers: The One Hood Media Academy" on YouTube Nuff said Peace & 1hunidyears

FreeStyle Fridays and Music

Image
good news for those that checkout my shows. On my shows that are done through the computer i will begin adding music to the show. I will be playing stuff that unless you are music buff you may never hear. I have been searching my Pandora for old and new cuts that help me think and I think some of the songs you will love. They will not be from the radio, they will be shelved and mixed up so you are liable to here a eclectic mix that will make you want to dance, cry, and may even make you angry that I played that shit. This the next evolution for the work that I have been doing and I hope you enjoy. Nuff said Peace and 1hunidyears

MP3 beef I Have (how artist may be losing money)

Image
My hero and future star With my new phone I have finally figured out how to listen to my MP3 player. I have began using Amazon Cloud Player to purchase tunes that I really like. First I am noticing the beauty and power of MP3 as a financial tool for artist and a matter of convience for the listener. Now I am free to buy music that I like and don't have to worry about storing the music. Coming from the old school either I had to have space to keep my records or cds which could turn into a burden especially when you move like I do. Now I can just push a button on my computer while listening to pandora and purchase some music, and even better I can pick through an album and get the music I like rather than buying a whole album. Hence the reason for the article. I have noticed that some artist maybe losing some money by not allowing the fan to purchase individual cuts. Some records make it so you have to buy the whole album, and for me I will walk away. I could not help but to wo

New Age guerilla tribute to Jimon Jones part II

Image
Image via Wikipedia Guerrilla in midst/ Using Hip-Hop as weapon/ Waking consciousness/ I must admit that I didn't understand Jimon 's concept of revolution or what he called "guerrilla grime lyph" until I picked up a book called "Guerrilla warfare" by  Che Guevara . In this book the world famous revolutionary Che' who came to fame as a major player in the  Cuban revolution , described the concept of true guerrilla warfare. He states that the guerrilla fighter is a "social reformer, that takes up arms responding to the angry protest of the people against their oppressors, and that he fights in order to change the social system that keeps all his unarmed brothers in ignominy, and misery. He launches himself against the conditions of the reining institutions at a particular moment and dedicates himself with all the vigor that circumstances permit, to braking the mold of these institutions." New Age guerilla tribute to Jimon Jones Part I

Image via Wikipedia Guerrilla in midst/ Using Hip-Hop as weapon/ Waking consciousness/ I woke up today with several things on my mind but one of my ancestors was calling out to me. I have for years been involved in my community as a NationBuilder, and one of the task that I took upon myself was raising boys into men. For years my house was full of young men and their friends. This brought me great joy and great pain. I have lost count of how many young warriors have passed through my house (known by many as the Gye- Nyame house). I have been blessed with the fact that many of these young people developed a love for me and affectionately called me dad or big bra. Back to the reason I'm writing this piece I woke up with one of the Young men who was in the Gye-Nyame house on my mind heavy. His name was Jimon Jones. He lived next door from me and eventually ended up staying at Gye-Nyame house. Unfortunately he was murdered in the short north. When he died I wrote an article abo

shouts out to the Midwest Spider

power is making/ your dreams breath and walk for real/ through life obstacles/ This a new part of the Journey I will begin sending shouts out to local artist, and entrepreneurs that are on the Journey. It is important that we support these folks, because they are out there grinding trying to get there name out there. So feel free to hit me up with suggestions for yourself as well of friends that out there "doin it". You have to have respect for those people that are out there making their dreams real. whether they are grinding out of their trunk, or selling their products at beauty salons or barber shops. When we support them we are really supporting ourselves. Each time we purchase a book, cd, ticket, or piece of heart we promote the culture of entrepreneurship. We keep the flame burning in them as well as ourselves.  although i hve put some artist on the Journey i have never really introduced them to you so I have one of my favorite Hip-Hop artist send me his Bio and a
