Image
https://www.spreaker.com/episode/the-wealth-you-carry--69782826 Is Your Personal Economy in a Recession? We talk a lot about "buying Black" and supporting the community, and that is essential. But there is a step before the dollar changes hands that we often miss. In today's episode, we dive into the principle of Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) , but not in the way you might expect. We are looking at the "economics of the self." If you are emotionally bankrupt, spiritually overdrawn, and mentally in debt to fear, how can you contribute to the collective wealth? We discuss why the first business you must manage is the business of You , and how taking inventory of your internal assets changes the game for everyone around you. History is Not the Revolution: A Hard Truth I Had to Face

History is Not the Revolution: A Hard Truth I Had to Face For years, I believed that knowing history was revolutionary. I thought that my Black Studies degree, my ability to recite historical facts, and my understanding of African civilizations meant that I was participating in a revolution. But I was chasing an illusion. The Illusion of Historical Knowledge as Power There is a glaring hole in the conscious movement—a political void that many of us never realized existed. My education provided knowledge of history but omitted the political strategies required to challenge the system. And perhaps, during my time, it was expected that those who truly wanted to understand the politics of revolution would seek it out on their own. But I missed that part. I never learned about the political dimensions of movement building—the economic strategies, the discussions about capitalism, socialism, and class struggle. Instead, I was left with historical knowledge that, while empowering, did not dir...

Kuumba Toast - Countering Oppression with Creativity (Sample)

Creativity is how we process the world. It's a by-product of our existence and something we just do. It's also something that can be developed and honed to have a more profound impact on the way we interact with our surroundings. Creativity is often associated with artistic endeavors, but the most powerful creativity is one that goes beyond art. Tapping into your creative potential can be done in many ways. Some people take up hobbies such as painting or music to get them through life. Others take part in political activism and social movements. In today's show, I will examine creativity as an alternative tool with which we can confront institutions of oppression and exploitation, create new communities of mutual aid and cooperation, provide alternative sources of employment, and generate models for human development that are consistent with our high potential as a tribe. Join us for todays discussion and be sure to get on the email list so that you can get the full artic...

Gun control or People Control

"Freedom has never been gained or lost in one sweeping  coup d'etat, but more in small stark steps that culminate in either the victory or defeat of  the people." Freedom is a heavy burden to bare, and it requires those who operate under it, to observe the world so that  they will not lose it. Freedom is a double edge sword that cuts both ways and sometimes will cut those wielding her if they are not paying attention. Look at what is going on America and understand that we are suffering from cuts from the sword of freedom. Just because you cut yourself with a tool (a sword like freedom is a tool that is used by people) does not mean you put it away. You either find a better tool for the job, or you improve your method of wielding it. Both of these option requires the user to do work either on the improvement of the tool, or to practice working with it (tool). We can not and should not give away our freedoms because we have been cut by them. We hav...
