Peace Fam Man we are coming off a great Nia, and moving into this Kuumba. I feel like a magician, I don't know why, but I have been humming this capoeira song "Assaulta Manginga" which means release the magician. Maybe it is because I just reached 100 subscribers on YouTube, maybe because I am finally getting comments on my blog, or maybe because I just had my afternoon meal. Whatever it is I am going to ride the feeling until I can't anymore. Now it is time for you to release the magician in your life.  Magician before they were connected to parlor tricks and morphed into politicians, were at one time very skilled workmen. They mastered there craft to a point to where it appeared they could perform miracles. They didn't have one trade they were the masters of their age. They got so good at what they did that people called them magi, which means wise. Magi is also the root word of magician, this word through time became associated with terms like super natural

This was my first session with my new phone, and it is unbelievable. I mean it is so good the camera is great, the speakers are outstanding. I have 64 gigs to use plus another 64 gigs on the sd card. So now i'm ready to go, or so you would think. My camera is to good, it picks up all the light, and makes all the videos at least from the selfie side look shadowy, so I cut off lights, and my black self disappear. I guess you can have to much of a good thing. I'm not complaining on this glorious day of Kuji (this days nickname). Kuji and myself have a real great relationship. The "Daily Toast" is a project that I started as a part of the #nguzosabachallenge. The challenge is  a simple idea that came to me during the Kwanzaa season. During Kwanzaa those of us that participate in it focus on the 7 principles for a whole week. The question that hit me is why couldn't we continue this practice throughout the year. Being a man that loves, and understand the power of symbols, I began to focus on the number 7. In -Nyame Journey the number seven is the number of study, rest, and perfection. I figured since there are 7 days in the week, why not replace the names with the principles. it seemed like a fair idea for me. The western world never had an issue with forcing their world view and symbols on us, so consider this as my symbolic push back. The name of the days never symbolically served Black folks anyway so it only made sense to me to replace the Greek, and Nordic god names with principles that would empower me and whoever else used them. My elders told me this in the early 90's. It has become a fact because one of the parties involved spoke up, but the evidence has always been there. Now the issue that bothers me is that America treats Black folks as if we have had every chance to make a better life for ourselves. The War On Drugs (WOD) started in 1970, taking up from  where Jim Crow left off, which had took up from where slavery left off. The fact is that Black Folks have been under attack since we have set foot on this land. Many of the complaints that I hear coming from the other members of the U.S., and even from other Black folks seems to leave these factors out when we they diagnose our ailments. The fact is that we have been used and left behind in the world wide race. We may need to now step back and look at some new ways to win, because trying to catch up in the traditional fashion is not going to work. One day I went to learn from one of my elders. This was over 20 years ago, but I still hold onto this memory, this was a critical shift in my life. This elder was very wise, and he proved it by his work in the community. Let's just say he was an alchemist. Long before people were talking about juice diets he had developed a line of juice and smoothies that could improve your health. I was blessed to receive an invitation from him to sit and conversate with him often. The idea that I wanted to share was brought to mind during a meeting that I was involved in.  I threw out a symbolic idea, that could not be grasped. Not that it did not make sense, but because the images I used were offensive and scary to some.  I dared to discuss a myth that I learned about Satan. I simply stated that in some cultures "Satan is known as the whisperer, and he or it had no power other than being able to present ideas (whisper) to the listener." My father was a different type of dude. He often referred to stories to teach me important life lessons, many of them I didn't understand until after he passed away. This story is one of those, and has proven to be the best so far. On my 18th birthday my father did not show up for my birthday party, but instead asked me to meet him at a coffee shop the day after. Being upset about him missing another major event in my life I showed up with an attitude. When I entered the coffee shop he was sitting at a table alone drinking and reading a book. I approached the table and took a seat, but he didn't immediately notice me. I sat quietly brooding, planning my verbal assault on this man that I felt never really paid any attention to me. Finally looking up at me, and smiling. " I'm glad you came, happy belated birthday." He said reaching his hand out in a gesture of peace. Stop begging to be relevant and make yourself relevant. Give yourself permission to be what it is you want to be. The fact is that we are all on a piece of dust (earth) whirling around a small flame (the sun) through an Immense void. One wayward cosmic wind and we will be blown out into the Infinite cold of empty space. We all are given time to live, but some of us chose to waist it, while some of us decide to build with it. The question is what are you doing with your time? Are you beggin others to recognize you and your gifts, or are you out doing things worthy to be noticed. The world is so monochromatic, that all you have to do is shine and be you and those that are tired of the "same old, same old" will find you.

Stop surviving and start living. falling from one event to the other. Allowing outsiders to determine where you go, and what you become. Find your purpose and be on it.

A hard truth for some, but a very present and sad reality for others. Here at the Journey we strive to bring the truth, as uncomfortable as it can be. The fact is that we are in an economy that feeds off of our labor but refuses to pay fair wages. Every company is in a race for the bottom, and the measuring tool that is used is the reduction in the pay and care for employees, or should I say slaves. Many of you may feel that this does not apply to you because you are not black, but the modern day slave machine does not care about your color. So continue to stay on your treadmill or get to running for freedom.
