Gratitude & Grace on the Journey

Image
On this Journey it is important that we begin to show gratitude for all the blessings that we receive. This is a challenge in a world that seems to want to help you find all that is wrong in your life. Let us take a closer look at this thing gratitude and then talk about an exercise that can help you in finding those bright spots. I know that many of you may think that there are no bright spots, but trust me they are there. Through my research and even more importantly my experience I have learned that the human mind and brain are tools to be used in life. We can train them to seek out certain things in the world. If you chose to seek out things to be grateful for you will find them. Without going into the complicated science of the brain, and what we know of the mind these tools have been shaped by evolution (if you prefer God) to seek out what we want from the world. This effect is the result of us descending from hunter gatherers in the past. Hunters had to be able to read signs,

The True Believer

Image
"Remember that Great Minds talk about Ideas and Solutions, Good Minds talk about events, but Suckas talk about people. Which category do you fit in" Brother ha2tim I just was blessed today with a gift. This gift is rare in this day and time, at least for me. It was a conversation about ideas. The talk started out as a 5 minute checkin but was transformed into a 2 hour tour de force of ideas. The central theme was success within an organization and in life. The one point that kept coming out was being able to become and develope true believers. Wiithout belief all things fall apart. When we look at all succesful organizations and people we see at the core a belief that holds the people and the individual on course. Belief is the one thing that seperate the great and the not so great. Those who as individual or as an organization that are succesful are those who practice a belief in themselves and/or a goal. This belief sustains them in the hungry seasons of life, and gives

Zombies

Image
I was thinking about Americas fascination with zombies. I wonder why they seem like the rage of the times. There is zombie shows and movies popping up everywhere, and I cant help but to wonder why? Is the American public enjoying the idea of mindless, twits running around with a bottomless hunger that can never be satisfied. Is subconsciously taking a look at its self in these fantasies. Hell, as i was driving to work I swear a saw a few zombies walking to their nest.  Shit we seem at least to me to be living in a post or maybe current apocalyptic time, in which people are being infected with a mental virus that catapults them into a zombie state. I have witnessed many occasions in which people have shut there thinking off and acted as zombie. I myself am guilty of this shit that I am describing. Christmas is approaching and watch some of the shit the masses do in the name of this holiday. Zombies are not on the TV or in movie theaters they exist among us, and sometimes are us. When

Still Dreaming

Image
Still Dreaming I woke up excited my spirit still ignited aligned my passion with purpose now my dreams are invited. I'm moved by the minutes amazed by the hours held captive by living this life we call ours. Held hostage by my hopes and shackled to my dreams my wishes turned to plans now my plans have turned to schemes. No daydreamer am I for simple wishing cannot thrive. One must act and one must love for lifelong dreams to stay alive. One must risk it all and chance the fall lose it all to gain it all overcome the circumstance of happenstance by standing tall. My light is still beaming my eyes bright and gleaming. I'm humbled and hopeful yet happy still dreaming. Preston J. Harrison

The Power of your Family Pyrmid

Image
During a recent class I had the pleasure of giving, I challenged the participants to build a "Family Pyramid". A family pyramid is simple a family tree flipped upside down. The idea of this exercise to help the participant to recognize their greatness as well as to help them develop a sense of destiny. Most of the participants completed the assignment. I moved into a discussion about each individual being on earth  for a purpose and the way I used to prove this to them was showing them how many people had to come together in their personal pyramid in order for them to exist. I explained that each individual within their personal pyramid had to come together exactly at the right time in order for them to exist. I further asked them to imagine that everybody within their personal pyramid was brought together by destiny just to produce them. Then I threw out the question "if these people were brought together in the past just so that you can have this moment what are you do

The Blessing In Being Stuck

Image
In each of our lives we reach a point where it feels as if we are stuck, and no matter what we do we cant seem to move forward. It is at these times we may need to slow down, and even stop struggling. I have found that the more we struggle at these times the worse we get entangled in life's net. Just stop and take some time to rest and to gain some perspective. At these times the universe may be trying to talk with us but because we are so busy trying to stay moving we cant hear. We have been taught that it is our duty to keep moving and never stop. If you are sick so what "get up and go to work" because we believe that our job needs us or that we will be fired. If you are stuck on a project keeping beating yourself over the head until a new idea comes forth. We have heard the stories of those who have pushed through major obstacles and now the world sing their praise, and we may want to be just like them. Because many of us feel that success is purely connected to

Have You Shaken The Dust From Your Feet

Image
Shaking the Dust from your feet is a command that I learned that Jesus gave to his disciples. They were instructed to shake the dust from there feet when they left a town, or house where people did not accept what they had to offer. When you look at it from a purely physical level this command can be confusing, but when we put on our symbolic glasses we see a whole new idea. Dust is defined as " Fine, dry powder consisting of tiny particles of earth or waste matter lying on the ground or on surfaces or carried in the air."   By shaking the dust from your feet when leaving a place means to leave the waste matter, and decayed particles where you found them.  On the Journey we have to have the same mind state, we want to begin shaking the dust from our feet when we leave not just places, but also when we leave negative people. We don't want to be carrying around the old waste from past situations because they may contaminate any new situation that we may enter. shaking t

Final Goodbye II- Running from grief

Image
Today Pepa died/ Should I be happy for him/ or sad for my lost?/ Thursday morning June 28, 2012 9:08am: Sitting at my desk preparing for the day. It is going to be busy with all of the Yoking classes I have this afternoon so I decided to get busy on this back log of paperwork sitting on my desk. While sitting there I decided to complete my podcast of the "6th tool". Phone rings, and I look at caller ID, and feeling of dread hits me. It is my mother calling, and I'm hoping that she does not have bad news to report about my grandfather: ha2tim: "What's up? Mother: "where you at?" ha2tim: " I'm at the office, why what's up?" Mother: Well I was looking for your wife, I called and she didn't pickup." ha2tim:" Well you know she never answer the phone." We laugh.... Mother: " Well I wanted to go by and pickup Gina (my youngest daughter), cause you know she tickles daddy." I get qui

The Final Goodbye

Image
We enter this life/ as flesh and bone on a quest/ final prize is death/ "As i stood over his bed looking down on him, i was at a lost of words. How do you say goodbye when you truly know that you may never see someone again in this life?" Although this may sound like a chapter out of a book. This is a true experience that many of us go through. With ageing parents and grand parents. How do we say goodbye to the pillars of our lives? These people who may have provided you with the foundation to become the beautiful person you are today. I am in this very situation myself.  My Grandfather appears to be in between worlds. His body seems to be slowly decaying and shuting down on him, and his mind and memory are gone. "He reaches out to the empty air grabbing or pointing at something that is not there and his breathing is heavy and rattles likes and childs toy." I cant help but remember this man as he was but the reality of where he is slaps me in the face. Sho

I am a Hip-Hop Philospha

Image
I am  a Hip-Hop Philosopha and Spiritualist this means that I have a unique way of seeing the world, and the way it runs. I have the pleasure of being part of a culture that does not mind borrowing. In Hip-Hop we have always borrowed the best and created something greater. You can see it in the fashion world, in art, dance, and music just to name a few areas of life where this culture as been a big influence. Growing up in this culture and developing the mindstate that goes with it, has opened many doors for me, and has created what you are reading today. In philosophy, and spirituality I have only done what my culture has guided me to do. Just like the DJ who would mix the old with the older and create something new, I did the same. When I developed Gye-Nyame and all of the other organizations before that I was motivated and inspired by the vibe of creating something useful from old ignored elements, and changing the world. Like that DJ I was able to look at the gospel differently

Spirituality

Image
Image via Wikipedia Here is an old blog from 11-18-10 discussing spirituality read and then check out my podcast " what is spirituality ". Connection to all/ True spirituality/ Based on relations/ Spirituality is simply about relationships. Managing and maintaining relationships with the living, and those who have made their transition. The four legged, the rocks, the plants, the Earth as an organism, and mother. When we deal with these relationships and humble ourselves and understand that we are "No higher than a Blade of grass, and no lower than its roots", when we strive to feel this connection to all life, and work with it; this my friend is true Spirituality. If a person does not work to cultivate relationships in their life, I dont care how many books they read, how much they know, how many rituals they participate in or even lead. I don't care how many times a week they go to a service, its not spiritual, and the practice of spirituality is not t

Building the lodge

Image
Building a sweat lodge/ is what this life is about/ we do this daily../ I have succesfully completed another Simba Camp and I am back still recoverying, physically and emotinally (so give me time to get back on schedule). Now my real walk and work begins. I must build the sweat lodge of my life so that I can proudly again sit with the creator, my ancestors, and the spirits of the universe. When we focus on this Journey we find that many of the rituals that we practice, are just that practice for living. In helping build the Sweat lodge I was able to reflect on the work that I put in this world, and this time I found myself worthy to sit amongst my brothers and elders to pray and sing. Hopefully you take time in your life for ritual and realize that the ritual is preparing us for the world. The real sweat comes from the work that we do in the world not from the trials of the ritual. So next time you are involved in one of your sacred rituals (which you should have if you are
