Golden MC- Hip-Hop fable

Image
Any similarities to any real life situations is purely a coincidence. This tale is simply an adaption of "the goose who laid the golden eggs." Once upon a time when the Game was pure and the Love for the art and culture was still alive, there was an rapper who was called the "Golden MC", because all his ryhmes seemed to turn to gold. His fans flocked to stores to buy everything he put out, and his shows would always sell out. When he wrote a song it seemed to touch his listeners hearts, sparked their imaginations and excited thier passions. When he put out an album it seemed that he shaped reality. He developed a cult like following to the point that everything he touched and wore people seemed to flock to copy which meant that he not only sold records, but he was able to sell clothes, glasses, alcohol, and etc.. This golden MC belonged to a crew of friends that was led by a power hungry individual, and he wanted all the money he could get now. He didn'

Baba- Chapter 9 part 1

Chapter 9 “Jay, wake up!!!” Simba was shaking me. I must have fell asleep reading. I looked outside and the sun must have just rose. “The council is waiting for you. Clean yourself up and report downstairs.” He stood up and walked out of the door. I got up, brushed my teeth and washed my face. I made up my bed and reported downstairs as I was ordered. Sitting around the table were four more people I had never seen before. Simba and Kwesi were also sitting at the table with them. There was a chair sitting in front of the table and I assumed it was for me. “Jay, I want to introduce you to the council that will take you through your vision quest.” After saying that Simba stood up and began pointing to the people sitting at the table.   “This is Sister Auset from Milwaukee. She is a Grand Master….from the House of Chete.” She was  a very dark and beautiful woman looking as if she wasn’t a day over forty. Her locks caught my attention; they were beautiful and long with a touch of

The Baba - Chapter 6 part 2

Image
Image by FreeWine via Flickr   Chapter 6 cont. It was almost six months before Simba stepped back into Brother’s. He looked as if he was under a lot of stress. He checked the books, and reviewed a report on everyone from Wise. Then he disappeared again. Wise came into the kitchen and called me outside. “Jay I don’t like prying into your business, but what is your relationship with Baba Simba?” “He is my sponsor.” “What!? How long have you been in our house?”                         “I completed my initiation 6 ½ months ago.” “Well Baba asked me to give you this.” He reached into his pocket, and gave me a cowry shell . Cowry shells in the club represent rank. After my initiation I received one shell signifying I was a Brother in the organization. Receiving my second shell was a sign that I was being moved up to the level of Majestic. “He asked me a lot of questions about you. Far as your work ethic , and I gave you good marks. It seems that he has plans for you. I was

Friday night Tribal Talk  (Hookah, tea, coffe, and good conversation) Why do we believe/ That people have to be on/ The same page as us/ Why do some people believe that in order for us to work together we have to be on the same page. why is this necessary? I have found that when people stress that we must be on the same page to work or even conversate what they are really telling me is that i have to think like them. This is a very limited way to see the Universe. Actually what you are dealing is in the uverse, and have cut everyone else off because you are stuck on your page. Why do we have to be on the same page? Can't we be reading the same book (speaking of books dont forget to support the Journey by purchasing some books...hahahahaa), or even be reading the in the same subject. Lets open up our dialogs so that we can allow growth. Stop trying to change others, and work on your growth. Different perspectives are good, new ideas are good, and can promote your and others grow

The Baba- chapter 6 part 1

Image via Wikipedia Chapter 6 I have completed basic training and was assigned to work in Brother’s where I first met Simba . I also have been assigned to the male house where my training continued, but seems less intense. Every now and then I see Simba, but he has been traveling a lot lately. I work all day in the kitchen with four other brothers and two beautiful sisters. All are nation builders. Two belong to Gye Nyame House, and the other 4 belong to the House of MChugangi. “Peace my name is Jay Kwabena.” Since I was the new face, I thought it would be proper for me to break the ice. “Peace god”, one of the brothers said with a smile. “ I am Kofi, also known as David . What house do you belong to?” “Im Gye-Nyame.” “Um, I am MChugangi, and that is Leroy he also Kwabena. He’s MChugangi. The two sisters are Jasmine, and Zendria. They also are MChugangi as well.” “How about the other two brothers?” “That is Siles and Wise of Gye-Nyame.” “Cool….nice meeting of you.” I b

Image
Image via Wikipedia Recieving visions/ from dedicated mission/ teaching by doing/ After years of dedication to her tasked. the Elder received a visit from the Spirit realm . her Ancestors through the power of the Creator came to her while asleep. Her deceased grandmother took the lead role because she would recognize her. Our Elder was amazed at the Axe' of this being it flowed around her and through her grandmother. It Shined so bright that the Elder had to cover her eyes. The ancestor then announced to the Elder that she was there to answer her question and show her the key to righting things in the world again. the Ancestor embraced the elder and took her first to see what the ancestor called a community in hell.  When they arrived the place was in total disaray. trash littered the area, nothing appeared to be taking care of. The community of adults and children sat at a gigantic round table and you could hear the arguing, and disrespect taking place. Youth did not

Elder focus mind/ your problems begin to fade/ contact source of all/ After years of meditation, contemplation, and analyzing the elder was on the verge of giving up his quest. She was trying to find the key to re-building a healthy community . As a last ditch effort the Elder decided to turn the matter over to her higher power. the Elder prayed night and day focusing on this one problem, and seeking the answer. She was determined to find the answer because she had watched the community that she belong to descend into a hell like state. Coming from a once proud tribe and community she noticed that the youth no longer respected the elders, and the elders seemed to not care for or about the youth. New Age guerilla tribute to Jimon Jones part II

Image
Image via Wikipedia Guerrilla in midst/ Using Hip-Hop as weapon/ Waking consciousness/ I must admit that I didn't understand Jimon 's concept of revolution or what he called "guerrilla grime lyph" until I picked up a book called "Guerrilla warfare" by  Che Guevara . In this book the world famous revolutionary Che' who came to fame as a major player in the  Cuban revolution , described the concept of true guerrilla warfare. He states that the guerrilla fighter is a "social reformer, that takes up arms responding to the angry protest of the people against their oppressors, and that he fights in order to change the social system that keeps all his unarmed brothers in ignominy, and misery. He launches himself against the conditions of the reining institutions at a particular moment and dedicates himself with all the vigor that circumstances permit, to braking the mold of these institutions." Dream house

Image
Image via Wikipedia Have you ever dreamed/ About something so long that/ You thought it was real/ I just woke up from a dream that my mom bought my dream house. Actually this was about the third time I had this dream. She walked me through showing me all the work that needed to be done. I followed quietly, but as she was showing me the rooms that still needed work I shared with her the fact it was a house that I had my eye on for awhile. I described to her what I what I had planned to do with the gigantic old mansion. She listened and told me to come back tomorrow so that we could talk about the possibilities. I woke up from the dream and tried to remember where this house was in reality, and realized that I dreamed the house up. Which means that this old mansion that I had been pineing for over the last 15 years is not in the world it is in me. I was shocked because i have been dreaming and praying that this house would not be sold. I have run through the house toured the house an

the Baba - Chapter 5 part II

Image via Wikipedia Click cover Chapter 5 (cont.) All my free time is spent studying with my generation (those that came in the same time as I did). We have to be able to answer all the basic questions. They start by asking us about the symbols of the club. From there we have to get into what is a nation, and eventually get to our family line. My family line  was simple. Simba was brought in by Ha2tim who is one of the founders. I am the only person Simba had brought in so far. Other family lines were fifteen people long. I had been going through the underworld for months and I had not seen Simba. Even when I am on work detail. I was sent a to work at the different establishments that the club owned. Many of these places you would never know the club had anything to do with. The longer I am in the more amazed I am at the depth of the influence of the club in this city. It is amazing what they are doing. The membership is full of people you would never expect from politician

Intention

Image by M.C. Martin via Flickr What do you intend/ intention is your weapon/ Use to cut threw life/   For those on the journey the challenge is to learn to find your lessons not out of the mouth of wo/men, but to find them in the world and your experiences. Your story is the text book of your life and the lessons you can gain from studying yourself are vast. Dont ever under estimate the wealth of wisdom sitting unattended in your personal journey. We are all being prepared for greatness in some way, but sometimes we miss the lesson because we get caught up in life. Now that I have that out the way let me tell you a short story to help make my point and to cover the lesson in my Ha2ku. When I was younger (alot younger) I use to play football (which is full of life lessons). I was alright, and was told by many coaches that I had potential for greatness in the game. I recently ran into an old coach of mine that gave me a lesson that I had to share. This coach remembered m

There are a lot of attacks that are being launched on this culture . i know i just probably pissed some of you off again by calling Hip Hop a culture, but that is what it is. I want go into the scientific , or anthropological definitions to prove my point, because if I have to do that then this is not the article for you. I just had to finally share what Hip Hop means to me and what it has done in my life. The thought hit me after I was viewing some You Tube videos, and there were good commentary, and then there was the other. the internet is full of experts and I try to respect them all, but what gives people the right to look at one piece in a puzzle and then define the
