Let’s Stop Using the Term “Racist” and Start Saying “Anti-Black”

Let’s Stop Using the Term “Racist” and Start Saying “Anti-Black” I’ve been on a run this week, and maybe it’s the sunlight, the ability to walk without a jacket, or just the feeling of movement, but I’ve been deep in thought. One thought that’s been sitting with me is how we talk about oppression. Specifically, how we use the term “racist” when we should be saying “anti-Black.” The Power of Precision in Language This idea first hit me while watching a video by an Arab woman discussing Zionism. Before she even began, she made it clear that she was being careful with her words because she didn’t want to be labeled “anti-Semitic.” That caught my attention. Why? Because “anti-Semitic” is a precise term. It specifically refers to discrimination against Jewish people. It doesn’t leave room for debate about whether someone is just “generally prejudiced” or if they have “friends from different backgrounds.” It zeroes in on a particular issue. Compare that to the word “racist.” It’s bro...

A Symbol of Unity and Prosperity

Greetings, Brothers and Sisters of the GNJ Tribe. Today, we dive deep into a profound proverb that resonates with the core of our Africentric journey: "Success is not so much what we have as it is what we are." This timeless wisdom, articulated by the insightful Jim Rohn, invites us to recalibrate our understanding of success. In a world that often measures worth by material accumulation, this proverb challenges us to look inward and recognize that the true essence of success is rooted in our being, not in our belongings.

The Essence of Success: Success, a concept often portrayed through the lens of material wealth and external achievements, holds a different connotation within the tapestry of our cultural narrative. True success, as our ancestors understood, is a harmonious blend of self-mastery, community upliftment, and spiritual alignment. It's about the legacy we create, the lives we touch, and the wisdom we impart. It's the strength we garner from our struggles and the resilience that courses through the veins of our history.

The Journey Within: In the pursuit of genuine success, the first expedition is inward. Self-awareness is the bedrock of growth. It's about understanding your strengths, embracing your vulnerabilities, and aligning your actions with the core values that define you as an individual and as a part of the larger African diaspora. Our heritage, rich in resilience and wisdom, provides a blueprint for personal development that transcends the superficial allure of material gain.

Community and Connectivity: Success is not a solitary endeavor. It's intricately tied to the fabric of our community. As we ascend, we must lift others along with us, understanding that our collective progress fortifies our individual achievements. Engaging with our community, sharing knowledge, and fostering empowerment are not just acts of service but essential components of our success narrative.

The first image is an inspiring portrayal that intertwines the essence of Africentric success with personal and communal growth. The central focus is a harmonious blend of African landscapes, featuring subtle symbols of legacy and wisdom. Dominating the scene is an ancient, majestic tree, its branches reaching out, symbolizing growth and the nurturing of knowledge across generations. The colors red, black, green, and yellow are intricately woven into the fabric of the scene, representing the Pan-African identity and the unyielding spirit of the African American community. The background transitions softly into a sunrise, suggesting a new dawn of enlightenment and progress. The entire composition exudes a sense of unity, resilience, and forward movement, capturing the cultural identity and aspirations of conscious African Americans. This image is a visual ode to the richness of character and the impactful contributions that define the community.
