Today I must focus on the fact that sometimes I just have to let go of what's gone, be grateful for what remains & look forward to what's coming

Django - Controversy

Image
Here is a response to an article that I read about Spike Lee and the Movie "Django Unchained" The article can be found: Morris W. O'Kelly This was my first time writting a response on Huffington Post and I was not aware of a word limit, so I figured hey this is a post on my blog. Check it out but first check out the excellent article by Mr. O'Kelly I was not  aware of all the controversy that surrounded Django, and Spike Lee. I am glad I did not hear about it until after I seen the movie. I do agree with  with Mr. O'Kelly about Spike's commitment to our community, that I feel can not be questioned. All anyone has to do is look at Mr. Lee's track record and see the love affair he has with Black people and our history. By understanding his love affair it makes it easier for others to understand his anger when it comes to Tarantino and his film making. I have seen many of Tarantino's films, and often wondered why he felt it so necessary to riddl

First Interview with a Witch in the Journey

Image
I was challenged today as I prepared for my weekly "FreeStyle Friday Show" . As I was preparing my mic and checking the music that I was going to play, a young man approached me and asked what type of music I was listening to. I explained that I was preparing to broadcast my show as I untangled myself from all the wires. He Took an immediate interest and asked if I do interviews. I said sure and welcomed him to come over and join the show, and what a show it was. It turns out that the young man was a High Priest in a Wiccan Covenant near Columbus. Now here is the challenge.... Should I give in to the fear of my old beliefs..... fears of public criticism.....fear of spells and potions.... Hell no, I jumped in and had a good interview and discussion. The show might turn some heads and scare some people, but it is a big world and I am going to run into a lot of different things, and have run into some different things. So I challenge my listeners to get through your fear a

Game Changers- 1Hood

Image
Now, I knew that my brothers  +jasiri X  and  +Paradise Gray  were in Pittsburgh NationBuilding, but to see the video shines a long needed light on the work that they have been doing. These brothers have moved the concept of hood media to another level. By setting up an academy that arms young people with media and the skills to control their images, they have empowered a generation of thinkers that will definitely have a say in the direction are communities go in. I only hope other youth groups embrace the model and begin to use media to build the images that they want to see rather than be victims to the images that are being produced for them and the world to see. Media is the new front lines and I salute 1Hood for building our Special Forces. checkout the video: Watch "Game Changers: The One Hood Media Academy" on YouTube Nuff said Peace & 1hunidyears

Revisiting Grace

Image
The concept of Grace has weighed heavily on my mind as of late. I was shocked at the power of this simple principle as I looked into it. I was truly acquainted with Grace as I put together the Millennium 7. I had to find a few new principles to use for a character building curriculum that I was putting together for young people.  I first had to research and replace some of the principles that I had always used. This is when I ran into the principle of gratitude. I placed it among many of the principles that I had used from the Nguzo Saba and replaced cooperative economics. I figured Gratitude would be a good replacement for it, and that I would be able to use the basic lessons that I had used for cooperative economics. I began my research and was amazed at where it took me. I began by breaking down the word gratitude and found that it lead to the word grateful. Both of these words meant being thankful. Grateful lead me to the word gracious, which was basically a thankful attitude,

Live @ New Harvest Cafe

Image
Columbus Ohio has been blessed by New harvest Cafe. Every week on Saturday evenings they host live bands that come in bless the audience with music. Last week I had a chance to hear Mark Lomax and his band. They came played a mixture of hard core old school jazz mixed with some music composed by Mr. Lomax.  The audience was caught up not only in Mark Lomax mastery over the drum, but was transported, and transfixed by Eddie Bayard on the saxophone. This was a dynamic show that has to be seen to believe. We have just launched a show called "Live @ New Harvest" that will be broadcasting the shows over Gye-Nyame Journey Radio on spreaker for our family and friends out of town or who just can't come. For anyone who was not able to catch the show or want to listen to it again I have it available on the station now. Just click one of the links at the bottom of the screen and listen. Be on the look out for my interview with Mark Lomax about his art, mastery, music, and his a

My Reflection

Image
After reading this blog by  +Seth Godin   I had to reflect on what Respect truly means. I love to look into words and get back to their roots. As  a matter of fact, I make it a habit. I believe that you can only grasp the true meaning of a word when you go back to where it comes from. i guess this is a lesson that I learned from the Book called  "Openings To The African Tree of Life by Erskine Peters" in it their is a proverb that states "in the original name is the essence". For me this has become a mantra that a say and put into action. By practicing the wisdom that lies in that proverb it has helped me make sense of words that I and others around me would just throw around. I began to realize that I was using words simply on feeling and not really understanding the true meaning. That brings me back to the word Respect, which the blog (at least to me ) is talking about. The word Respect is composed of to smaller words:  Re- which means again Spect- which means

Late Night Hookah

First, before I get into my post, I want to send shots out to my youngest daughter who made it to the world on December 27 2012 at exactly 6:14... so from this day she will be Known as Ms.614.. I don't believe in coincidence so ms.614 or Sasha confirms that I am where I supposed to be and doing what I am doing. Some may wonder why I promote using the Internet to it's fullest.  I suggest that everyone gets a blog, twitter, face book, spreaker, g+ and what ever us is out there. "My reasons are personal" (in my Vito Corleone voice)... Legacy ladies and gents. We are living in the most dynamic time in human history, and each of us have the ability to through our voice, writing, ideas, and etc. out into the world. We have been taught to stay quiet, and not share what's on our mind, but I am saying stop hiding your light. Shine for the world, for you may project the beam that may free someone. Stop worrying about those who don't agree with you or that you may not

The End Didn't Come, or Did It???

Image
Well it is the 12-25-2012 and the world didn't end. So that means that I will have to pay these damn billls... Well since we are still here this simply means that we have more time to get life right. We can make changes in our lives that will move us toward what we view as happiness. For some of us the world did end, some of us watched the old world die and a new one emerge from the flames like a phoenix. I love the symbolism of the phoenix because it teaches us that life is a cycle of birth and death, and the cycle never ends. The death that I am referring to is the death of the reason to stay ignorant. With all this social networking, all this access to information by way of the internet, and the world getting smaller their is only one way that people can stay in the old world and that is by choosing to stay blind. Yes this is a choice, and by choosing to close our eyes we will doom ourselves to the way things were rather the how they could be. As people being born in this dynami

Change in the Journey's Podcast

Image
Beginning with my next live broadcast I will add Google+ hangouts to the broadcast. I have been experimenting with the idea, and will launch it on my next live broadcast. The idea is to provide video and another way to interact with my audience. The show will  broadcast on youtube  and allow the listener to respond immediately as well as participate in my experiment with emergence. The listener will be able to send direct messages as well as share their thoughts on the shows notepad. The idea is to have people  share insights disappointments, ideas, discussion points and etc. with the entire audience. Everyone that checks into the hangout will be able to use the notepad and leave their mark on the show. The one negative is that i will have to mute myself from the discussion. I will be able to hear (maybe), but I will not be able to speak while the show is running.  Because I will be broadcasting over Youtube there is no limit to how many people can tune in and participate, but to g

Monster by Preston Harrison

Image
Monster  A  violent outburst of a malicious heart evil intentions manifests in real time beyond immoral outside of crime the murder of youth is outside of my time and outside of space unfathomable of my mind. Destruction of the spirit and torturing of the soul Innocence lost, they were punished by malice but guilty of nothing. Those children were our future left abandoned and vulnerable. They were forced to meet death before ever becoming familiar with life. There lives were brief and stolen by a thief the devil made flesh and in his path was grief. Broken homes and shattered families haunted bedrooms and dreams unfinished at best no justice for the families or the victims laid to rest. Tragedy looms in the hearts of the damned they seek no redemption and only worship pain and suffering. When love is rejected hate is selected these series of events are not random but connected. A trend of sin the madness of mass murder th

Character Building

Image
I have been building my tribe slowly and steadily. I have written post, books, and even created a podcast for that Nia. I am also studying marketing strategies and how develop idea viruses that will motivate people to take action. I realize that this will be a long Journey filled with obstacles meant to destroy me or make me stronger ( depending on how I see the world).  I have also accepted the fact that my books and podcast may never make a impact until I am possibly dead and gone, for me and the Journey I am on, that is cool, but I want to take this time to point out something I have noticed. Working in schools, and institutions around the state of Ohio I have noticed the movement to teach principles, values and etc.. under the label of character building. This is a important step for our children because a strong character goes a long way. It gives the individual ideas that can support them during hard times and gives them a measuring rod that can be used to evaluate their ch

End of The World Show

Image
As my 12-21-2012 broadcast approaches I just can't help but to wonder what will happen (although I know). You have to excuse me for my  cynicism. You have to realize that I have been through these type of scares so many times in my life, that I have become numb to the idea about the end of the world. I have been listening to shows, reading books, and etc. about this date that I can't wait to see what is next. You see with all these failed attempts there is always another prophesy that follow on the heels of the last failed attempt. i cant but help but to laugh at the attempts to feel the masses with a sense of fear and  foreboding about the future. I cant understand why we don't have leadership that embrace some of the new research that is coming out about the power of the human mind. Rather than preparing people for old prophesies that condemn the vast majority of the population of this planet to doom, why not motivate people with an idea or a prophesy of Abundance, Joy, a

Professionalism Vs. Mastery

Image
Are you a professional or a master? At first glance they may appear to be the same but when we look at their roots and motivation they are not. When we take a look at the word "professional" it is a person who practice a skill for a  livelihood .  A "Master" on the other hand is someone who pursues a passion, and develops a great skill  in what they do. Today the problem is that we have to many "pros" and not enough "Masters". A Professional can be driven by purely financial gain. They may not have a love for the art that they practice, they do it because it pays the bills. They may have been forced into their  field by life circumstances, they may have showed some natural skill, or just following a family tradition. The key  ingredient of a "Master" is missing, the love of the art. It is the love that  separates  the Master from the professional  . It is the love of the "Master" that generates advancement in his or her craf
