Setting Rituals/Routines Will Change Your Life - Daily Toast Umoja 612171

Peace FAM: I often say "Let's Build", but many people don't understand that I am talking about building ourselves. We have to realize that from a Gye-Nyame Journey Perspective, all of our principles start within the individual. We have to find Umoja within before we can find it in the world. We have to pull the five parts of ourselves together so that we can direct that power toward achieving our goals. The second method that I am going to share with you (first was SelfMastery moment) to help you along this journey is simply setting up a ritual. A ritual is defined as an established or prescribed procedure for a religion or other rite, the main reason I connected the word routine into this discussion is that with routine you don't get the religious under tone. Many people believe that you can't have rituals or rites without religion, and that is a trick that is played on you. When look at what religions were created for we see that they help the user salute

Image via Wikipedia “Angalia” Malik yelled and everyone stopped what they were doing and faced the stairs. I went along with everyone else. Simba was coming downstairs. “At ease Brother and thank you for the respect.” Everyone in the immediate area greeted him. “Jay come with me.” I followed him out of the patio door and into the garden. He sat on the bench and I remained standing in angalia. “Relax Jay, I brought you out here to talk with you. I want to explain what is about to happen.” “Yes sir.” I sat down next to him. “The family is at a crucial point in our development, and we need people around that really have the group’s best interest at heart.” “I understand Sir.” “The next step for you is to get clarity on why you were chosen, and for you to find your Nia.” “I know my purpose, and that is to serve the club and to build this nation.” “That is what you have been taught to say. Is that what’s really in your heart?” I grew silent because in a way he was right. Ever since I ent

Capoeria a model for new world

Image
Image via Wikipedia Play capoeria/ And with each Roda watch life/ Change before your eyes/ Being blessed to have been involved with capoeria, I have a model of life that works for me. Capoeria is an art that teaches you how to play rather than fight. Don't get me wrong you learn to defend yourself, but the vibe is different from other martial arts. In capoeria you view conflict differently, by you making it a game you are more willing to try new things. In trying new things the art becomes you as you develop your style of play. This feeling , this idea can't help but to come into your regular life. Your life begins to become your roda (ring were we play) and you are constantly in the game. Knowing the rules of the roda or life makes the game more spectacular as you do your moves, and take advantage of what is being given to you. i had to recently look at my life and remeber my training. Some time when life seems to become overwhelming I have to take advantage of the rules

The Baba - Chapter 6 part 2

Image
Image by FreeWine via Flickr   Chapter 6 cont. It was almost six months before Simba stepped back into Brother’s. He looked as if he was under a lot of stress. He checked the books, and reviewed a report on everyone from Wise. Then he disappeared again. Wise came into the kitchen and called me outside. “Jay I don’t like prying into your business, but what is your relationship with Baba Simba?” “He is my sponsor.” “What!? How long have you been in our house?”                         “I completed my initiation 6 ½ months ago.” “Well Baba asked me to give you this.” He reached into his pocket, and gave me a cowry shell . Cowry shells in the club represent rank. After my initiation I received one shell signifying I was a Brother in the organization. Receiving my second shell was a sign that I was being moved up to the level of Majestic. “He asked me a lot of questions about you. Far as your work ethic , and I gave you good marks. It seems that he has plans for you. I was

Elder seeking answers- Part II

Image
Image via Wikipedia Recieving visions/ from dedicated mission/ teaching by doing/ After years of dedication to her tasked. the Elder received a visit from the Spirit realm . her Ancestors through the power of the Creator came to her while asleep. Her deceased grandmother took the lead role because she would recognize her. Our Elder was amazed at the Axe' of this being it flowed around her and through her grandmother. It Shined so bright that the Elder had to cover her eyes. The ancestor then announced to the Elder that she was there to answer her question and show her the key to righting things in the world again. the Ancestor embraced the elder and took her first to see what the ancestor called a community in hell.  When they arrived the place was in total disaray. trash littered the area, nothing appeared to be taking care of. The community of adults and children sat at a gigantic round table and you could hear the arguing, and disrespect taking place. Youth did not

Road blocks or stepping stones

Image
Image via Wikipedia Road blocks always come/ welcome them and use them as/ stepping stone to top/ First I need to apologize for the mix up for the venue for the training for those that came out and was on their way. At this moment I am re-planning the training and You will be receiving notice of the location and the time for the new start date.  This event  reminded me of one of the major lessons of SelfMastery, being able to take what seems like an obstacle and transforming (alchemy at its most basic level) it into an opportunity. for those that do not know what happened. The venue was double booked and i had to cancel our session because of the mix up. know i could be upset, and just sink down into the "why me" syndrome. Instead I took that time to re-think my approach to the training. i also had an opportunity to discuss the future of SelfMastery with the people that came out. I got to see who was serious about the training, and moving forward with this endeavor. These th

How to pour Libations

Image
We pour libations/ to connect with all that is/ and to cleanse our hearts/ I need to start this article by stating this information is based on my personal experience. I have been pouring libations for at least 20 years all over the country and personally. Libations for me is a process of remembering, and connecting or re-connecting to not only the Spirit but everything around us . When we pour libations we are opening ourselves as well as the group to the axe ' of the entire Universe . I first must admit that I do not belong to a group, sect or religious order. I am a lay man who have made a personal connection with the world, and the spirit. By pouring Libations we strengthen these relationship. So let me define a few things first so that we can be on the same page. Libations - the process of pouring or giving a sacrifice to form a connection with this world and the spiritual realm. Spirituality - the state of establishing and maintaining relationships Axe&

Elder seeks answers- story adapted by ha2tim

Image by Getty Images via @daylife I read the original story some years ago and decided to adapt it for the Journey. if anyone out there  know the original story and who wrote it hit me up so that I can give credit. here we go.... Elder focus mind/ your problems begin to fade/ contact source of all/ After years of meditation, contemplation, and analyzing the elder was on the verge of giving up his quest. She was trying to find the key to re-building a healthy community . As a last ditch effort the Elder decided to turn the matter over to her higher power. the Elder prayed night and day focusing on this one problem, and seeking the answer. She was determined to find the answer because she had watched the community that she belong to descend into a hell like state. Coming from a once proud tribe and community she noticed that the youth no longer respected the elders, and the elders seemed to not care for or about the youth. Materialism was the name of the game and it had consumed

Fear is back

Image
click to get help over the hump Fear is a weapon/ Used to confuse ignorant!!/ Are you ignorant?/ Ha2ku by ha2tim Guess who has reared its ugly head again. Our old friend Fear, yep one of the deadly seven. Actually Fear is the seven (fear, envy, pride, greed ,sloth, lust and anger). fear manifest itself through each one of these seven. it comes into our lives and freezes us in place. keeps us stuck in things we know we need to move beyond. The good news is that fear is a signal that change is coming. we just have gird our loins and push through. When we stand before fear we are presented with a gift that we have to take a risk to get. look fear in the face that it presents you and chase it away. because it is a coward, it, will not stand before moves made boldly. it will nag you from behind the battlefeild, and your task is too keep moving leaving it so far behind you that you cant even hear its echoe. move boldly on your journey. Simba Circle Fund Raiser

Image
It is that time of year once again  where we are reaching out to our family and friends to help us keep Simba moving. For those that don't know Simba/Simsa also known as Rescue, Release, and Restore is an organization that has helped hundreds of African- American young men and now ladies go to our summer camp . Their they are not only introduce to the woods, swimming, basketball, and all of the typical camping experiences. They are also introduced to a committed core of adults that interested in their growth, they become part of a family and a nationwide network, they are introduced to Africentric principles as well as other cultures, and for at least 10 days out of the year they are some place safe (Simba Land). In this letter I am including some video footage for those who want more info on Rescue,Release, and Restore and a link to where you can go and donate. Sin

Image
to purchase click Image by ViaMoi via Flickr The only true sin/ is separation from God / which cannot be done/ When time is taken to study this statement, some conflict within may begin.  This thought clashes with everything that may have been programed into us. Many of us may have been convinced that we were born in sin, and that is the end of the story. When we look at the view of sin that is spoken of in the Ha2ku, we can't accept it. It is comfortable for many to be a sinner, infidel, heathen, or whatever term is used today. When we accept this views of ourselves they give us something to blame. We don't have to take immediate responsibility for what we do, because we was just following our nature, or we can hand over the blame to some outside force that has control over us like a demon or devil. I'm not hear to argue against those beliefs, if they work for you stick with it. For those who have embarked on their Journey and are exploring new ways to look at th

Truth about ROP

Image
Image via Wikipedia Seperation from/ Initiation into/ Transformation now/ I was thinking about the term rites of passage and I have come to the conclusion that the title is wrong for the work that I am doing. Rites of Passage is a term that was developed from a world view that was shaped through anthropology. this is a science that strives to look at human activity from an outside perspective. when I look at something from an objective view I can never truly get out of the process what is meant. truly when we look at what people were doing in this process we have mislabeled as ROP we see that they were transmitting information that promoted the growth of the society that it came from. so we have a process that is involved with two things. first I am introducing you to the roles and responsibilities of the new position you would be taking in the society. on the deeper level I was introducing you to a new part of yourself that was unknonw to you. I label this the Self mastery pro

Gye-Nyame Tribe

Join this blog and join me on this Journey. Also join us at our ning site posted up above. Before I get into the subject that I was scheduled to discuss, I need to announce that Gye-Nyame Tribe is not something you belong to when it is convenient for you. You are either part or not. Either you are helping us build or you are not. I have been part of many organizations that have been destroyed by fringe membership it is ridiculous. There is a process of membership if you have not been through it or are not going through it now you are not in the Tribe. So please do not throw membership up in my face if you are not. The history of this tribe is something that I need to go into so that people can really understand. Gye-Nyame Tribe is the result of years of work and study of what was going on in our community. It belongs to and owes a lot to several organizations that came before it. I will take you for a brief walk in the history of our tribe so hold on. The beginning of our tribe roots r

Warriors/Heroes return

After returning from a successful weekend and being blessed to be on a spiritual high for that weekend. I can not describe the amount of despair I felt returning back to the city. It is hard for a warrior/hero to return back home after their adventure. Why is this? It is hard to return to a world that does not understand you. It is hard to return to this plain reality when you have been a witness to miracles and the true power of the Creator. What all warriors/heroes must understand that our real test is never in the alternate realities that we experience or create, but right here in this world. Our true conflicts are in our homes and neighborhoods. We are allowed these rest periods to give us hope of things to come and to remind us of what we are fighting for. If you look into ancient myths you will see this theme being played over and over again. The heroes of old found it hard to adjust to everyday life when they knew that they have slayed dragons, and witnessed miracles. Not realiz
